Two changes from last weekend, as David Robson and Leon Ayinde come in for Luke McNicholas and Devante Rodney, who both miss out.#RAFCpic.twitter.com/gk8vA1F385

As elsewhere, didnât see the game, what did he change prior to their goals that gave them the initiative?
I'm not sure JM can be directly accountable for individual errors and as a whole Ferguson has been superb so I'd lay off hammering him too much, he'll know he's messed up.
It was an absolute training session as highlighted by the commentary team when 2 up, the levels of panic and not having anyone in the side to calm the storm is alarming though and it does seem to be present in this side still.
It's not necessarily what JM changed "prior to their goals" to what he didn't change after we fell off a cliff.

It was the same last week, get in front and instead of killing off the game, we sit back, today 2 up and second half, instead of killing off in the game, we allow them back into the game. McNulty needs to develop a ruthless streak, because his present approach off when we take the lead, to get the team to sit back, will cost us over the season and could be the difference between promotion and another season in the national league.
Wtf are you on about? We didn't sit back, we were in complete control and creating openings at will until a defensive balls up let Ebbsfleet back in. Even after they'd equalised, we continued to be on the offensive but Ebbsfleet suddenly made it more difficult as they had a point to hold onto.

I watched the game. The first sixty minutes was as good as we've played this season, some good passing and movement and we got behind their defence on numerous occasions. Ebsfleet are by a distance the worst team I've seen since we dropped out of the league. I commented during the second half that the only way these could get back into the game was by us doing something stupid...five minutes later we did, it looked like casual, lack of concentration play by Ferguson who seemed to just pass the ball to nobody and their player picked it up and clipped it over the keeper. Completely unexpected and Robson couldn't have anticipated it, there was no reason for us to lose possession of the ball. This was then compounded by a rash challenge by Gordon which looked like a definite penalty.
To be fair to Ferguson it's the first real error he's made but it will be interesting what McNulty does next, will he stick with him or go with Hogan who has been a solid lower league defender for a long time. All defenders make mistakes at this level though, i suppose it will boil down to what he sees on the training ground. We've lost three away games now and the central defenders have been at fault in all three for gifiting goals, the same also happened at home to Solihull. Ferguson hasn't been McNultys first choice this season but he took his chance and made himself undroppable, today was his first real error and because of that i think it would be harsh to drop him at Fylde next week. I'm really hoping though that Hogan will prove to be better than what we've seen over the last two or three seasons because the centre of defence has been a comedy of errors for a long time. No point the manager signing him up for the season if he isn't better than what we already have. Time will tell if that's the case.
Pre-season the majority of fans highlighted the centre of defence as a cause of concern, one that needed strengthening, but it didn't happen. In the first couple of months those concerns by the fans have come to fruition and we've lost games as a result. It's a shame because the rest of the recruitment has been decent but giving away daft goals is undermining a lot of great work, as we saw today.

We've still only lost 2 away - even if today felt like a defeat. đ˘
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
7 points from 9 since Eastleigh isn't the end of the world , today should have been another win but it seems our travails down South are trickier than we might expect. Still lessons learned and all that. I can't say I am overly bothered about a result at Fylde, coming home with a fully fit team seems more important than hoping for an outside chance of reaching the 3rd round proper. Similarly the games against the u23s or whatever they are, probably better to pull our punches than risk injuries to key players. Its a long season and we are only 28% through it and currently on target to get around 85 points .. probably enough for a playoff position and on target with the 3 year " back to the EFL" plan too. This group is much better than last seasons, next season's will be better still, gradual progression, continual improvement.

Thank you for the summary.
Agreed on the defensive recruitment. Fergusonâs good form was a bonus as he obviously wasnât going to be a regular, we needed someone else then and with EEL out we probably needed another as well as Hogan.
The injury situation is becoming a big worry though.

All the more reason to withdraw from that nomark cup competiton that is breaking lowest attendance records all over. Surely, from the league position we are in, the focus has to be reaching the play-offs, not pandering to something that suits clubs with far greater resources.

Yes, lengthy injuries also. As one of the previous posters stated though, this is the start of our three year journey and maybe we should expect to see certain areas of the team not as strong as others. Recruitment next summer will allow quality over quantity because we already have plenty of this squad on two year contracts, so the budget should allow us to bring in maybe another four or five quality additions. As the season progresses the picture becomes much clearer for McNulty in relation to what areas of the team need strengthening and that's a good thing. With a plan in place there could already be half a eye on recruitment, there should be.
Maybe we should all be viewing this season as a free hit and realising that the team is nowhere near the finished article yet anyway. The Ebbsfleet commentators were eulogising over our display up to us self imploding, like a cat playing with a ball of wool was how they described our control of the game, the best team they've seen this season. McNultys still learning, i think he'll get better and when we play with tempo as we did today we look very good. So to sum up, we are definitely on the right tracks this season, unfortunately we are our own worst enemy due to defensive inadequacies and that will probably prove our undoing come May.

Yeah, especially with this ridiculous rule about having to play four players who played in the last/next game.
We have now lost EEL, Henry, Gilmour, McNicholas (twice) and Rodney for significant lengths of time. Thatâs half a first team. Concerning.

The first goal looks to be more down to a poor touch/ball from Gordon than a Ferguson error.
Yes, having seen the replay you would have to put that down as poor play by Gordon. If Ferguson had tried to get to that loose ball I don't think he would have got there in time. Having seen it again i wouldn't put any blame on Ferguson for the goal. The commentators called it as Ferguson being at fault, at first glance I thought it was Ferguson but it was such a inconspicuous passage of play you didn't expect anything to go wrong.

Gordon has made a full apology on social media for his errors. Fair play to him. These things happen. We move on.

Yes we do, Gordon's been our most improved player this season. We haven't half conceded a lot of very avoidable goals already this season though. A very good performance today was ruined by two very poor pieces of play.

Thatâs it, mistakes will happen and it sounds like a few minutes of chaos probably shouldnât detract from a good performance overall. Itâs definitely points dropped though and we have to learn to recover better after conceding so we donât do it again soon after like today and at Eastleigh.

Pretty much all goals are avoidable if you can eradicate mistakes, but you can't... the best you can do in reality is to make opposition players work hard for their goals. Maybe Ferguson could have got to the loose ball or maybe fouled the player and picked up a yellow, but to expect the lad to unleash a 40 yard shot was way down on the list of probabilities. Gordon is probably our most improved player and will learn that the loose ball was his first error but letting that get to him and then making a rash tackle is the thing he will learn the most from. That moment of hot headedness has cost us 2 points today, but if Gordon becomes a better player for this experience, we will be several points better off by the end of the season.

Apparently McNulty took Ferguson off because he had picked up a knock.
What is worrying Rodney and McNicholas have muscle injuries, and could be out for six weeks. I wonder why are we suffering so many muscle injuries this season.

Not sure what was more depressing, the second half capitulation or the drunken behaviour of the half dozen idiots off the Booze Bus. Foul mouthed and homophobic in front of children for the duration. An embarrassment to themselves and the football club. I was shocked to see a former Trust Chairman encouraging them at one point in the first half. Will think twice about bothering with an away game in future.
Let's just get on top of this:
Said "former Trust Chairman" is an esteemed friend of mine of nigh on 30 years. He doesn't need me to stick up for him in any way, but such are his contributions to this football club over much of that time; him being a lynchpin in saving the club from the vultures; and my care for a friend necessitates my comment.
He might have been "pissed as a newt" but there is not a chance what you 'think' you saw is the truth, not a cat in hell's chance.
Whether my words carry any weight or not - I have no idea; still, based on Brierls' polite rebuttal from actually being there, I'd suggest you retract that part of your analysis as he does not deserve any besmirchment of his reputation based on a misunderstanding.

Glad you posted that. This bunch of guys and gals travel all over the country to every fixture, they put more miles into supporting our club than the overwhelming majority, it must cost them a fortune. Do they have a good day out and incorporate a few beers in all of that? Well they would be daft if they didn't. They are always found near to the singing section or sometimes instigating it themselves...that's to be applauded, it's called supporting the team and even at my advancing age i like to join in with the singing, as do all my mates. We specifically try to be around that area of the away section.
I know them all, I've been in their company ( indirectly) at matches for probably 40 years or more..they are all professional people who i can say hand on heart would never associate themselves with homophobic/ sexist/ racist chants, they would definitely call that out. In fact they called me out for a homophobic post on the forum a few years ago, even though it was wrongly posted in jest.
Sometimes you can be accused of being guilty by association just by being in the same vicinity ( the away section was a small pen in the corner), I'm sure this is the case in this instance. I would hope that the accusing post is pulled from the forum because it's obviously a incorrect accusation. It's also extremely poor form posting such a serious accusations on the fans forum and in particular more or less naming the person involved. Admin should be pulling the post as soon as possible.

100% spot on.
The âformer trust chairmanâ and the person who first replied to the poster making the accusations are two of the finest people you are ever going to meet - both at and away from football. There is more chance of me pulling Miley Cyrus at Lidl later on than either one or both of them getting involved in any of that and theyâd have tried to put a stop to it immediately.
I can guess going off social media from yesterday the ones who probably were acting the goat but Iâll refrain from hinting at who they are without knowing what really happened. Something Newbury_Dale could perhaps learn from.
An apology is in order I think.

I am completely the opposite on the FA Cup. We have had some great cup runs over the past 20 years and it gives the club a lift, brings in some floating fans as we progress, and brings in much needed revenue. I would love us to have a go after the poor showing over recent seasons. As for the tinpot competition with the under 21 teams I never thought we should have entered in the first place.

Sorry to keep resurrecting this point, but why oh why didn`t we go for another young striker when all the transfer activity was under way instead of collecting multiple midfielders. Rodney now out for 6 weeks (again) so all the responsibility for goals now falls on Mitchell again.
I suppose Jim now has to flounder around the loan market. Personally I would bring Hendo back into a starting position even if only for an hour or so.

I agree
JM has said the increased squad size was in anticipation of the cup games as well as the league, and if we don't give the FA Cup our best shot in a very winnable fixture it'd make that increased provision not quite as useful, although it'll certainly help with the league too when we have the injuries
I'd expect players on the fringe to be used, but they should be chomping at the bit to prove a point

I was right in the middle of it and several of us were calling out drink fuelled youngsters for stupid remarks. There was no encouragement.
Thatâs as polite as I can possibly put it.
Agree.
I was stood in front of you all and while some of the shouts and comments from the excitable and angry youth at times crossed a line, the only involvement I can recall from Col is him trying to restrain and cajole one of the aforementioned.
It seems he's guilty of just being there!

Please substitute "team" for McNulty. Very poor choices from the manager after we totally dominated the first half.
And were still dominating the second half up to Gordon's errant pass.
Ebbsfleet had gone, they weren't interested and their players were arguing among themselves. Gordon's mistake changed that, not anything McNulty did, and suddenly gave them hope.
What do you think he did to cause Gordon to misplace that pass and also give away a penalty?
