Not COVID related, passed away after a long illness
A great entertainer who loved football. Isn't mentioned on the BBC site, but just to keep playing, he continued to drop down leagues & i think even played for a few non league teams into his 40's
Unfortunately played at a time where being a skillful entertaining player almost guaranteed you would get less England caps

A real character.....there is the story of Alf Ramsay telling him before one ofhis England appearances in a friendly international “Frank, I am going to pull you off at half time” to which Frank replied “ OK boss, I usually just get an orange”.

Far be it for me to spoil a good story but it was the equally talented Rodney Marsh who allegedly made that remark. I don’t think Frank ever played under Sir Alf Ramsey.

Saw him score a hat trick against West Ham in the 5th round of the Cup,early 70s in a 4-2 victory. Every goal was a belter, the `Ammers never knew what hit them. RIP Frank, thanks for the memories.

He scored against Dale for Stockport in a 1-1 draw at Edgeley Park in January 1988.
Still a great player then.
Jason Smart was given his Dale debut against Burnley on 18/3/86 and had an excellent game.
Four days layer we were at home to Tranmere, who had Worthington as player-manager. Vic Halom left Smart out of the team as he didn't want to pit him against a player like Worthington.
When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

The days when skill entertained us. Rodney Marsh, StanBowles, Alan Hudson, Jimmy Greenhoff, and many more, before tactics lowered our expectations of what was a good player.
