A week in, and it barely seems to be registering with a lot of people.
Maybe after the brilliant London games in 2012, the Rio Olympics with its main events happening in the early hours is less of a spectacle; but also the problems that've beset the build up will have put a lot of people off - drugs, viruses, corruption, etc.
I watched till 3am last night, and our athletes are doing us proud, not only in winning but also the sportsmanship shown by the likes of Jessica Ennis-Hill in acknowledging the new kid on the block, taking her crown. Silver is still an achievement after time out to become a mum.
Of the other two who made Super Saturday such an enthralling spectacle four years ago, Mo Farrah remains unbeatable despite what looked like a deliberate trip from his former training partner. Greg Rutherford took bronze this time.
The only disappointing thing was watching our other heptathlete, Katarina Johnson-Thomson, unable to throw a javelin properly after four years of presumably training for it (and being ok at it) with awful body language and a scowl on her face. Someone needs to tell her how lucky she is - privileged to be using Lottery funding for her career.
Usain Bolt tonight. Not bothered if others find it less than enthralling - I love watching people who're the best on the planet beating off allcomers, and enjoying it. |  |

Watched the swimming just for Helen Skelton, she gets a gold medal from me every time.
Also congratulations to the GB women's Hockey team who showed they had more balls than the men's Hockey team. The girls won 5 out of 5 to top the group while the blokes had an early exit. |  |

But history will judge him as the greatest athlete that the world has ever known and its so crucial to the sport that he's done it whilst clean.
Fair play as well to Murray. Before him, male tennis was a succession of services won with the odd break. Watching Murray, anything can happen and he is without doubt the most exciting player in the world to watch. He can probably rightly claim to be the current world number one too. |  | | |

Bolt's record-breaking days in the 100m are behind him - it'd be risking muscle damage in someone with his physique, at his age. The 200m is a different matter (the start isn't as crucial) and that's what he's saving himself for, in what could be his final solo appearance on the world stage, with the sprint relay to come. He holds the 200m record of course, 19.19, but a run under 19secs had been thought highly unlikely - until he came along. Even when breaking the record he's always cruised the final 20/30m due to being so far ahead, but he's stated he'd like to go for it this time. It'll be some spectacle.

The whole games has been spectacular from a TeamGB pov.
We undoubtedly excel in the endurance/pain sports of rowing and cycling (which we have now become a dominant nation in on both road and track), but second in the table for a relatively small nation is awe-inspiring.
As for grit, it's what we do best and was personified by Murray last night (spoty nailed on?) but we have done well in the gymnastics, shooting, equestrian, pool, boxing etc etc. The variety of sports we compete well at at the top level is remarkable (we invented a lot of them!) and there have been nearly as many great moments in these games as London, but they were easier to watch timing-wise.
As has been mentioned, the crowds have been poor (1,000 in the Maracana the other day vs sell outs at Wembley) but that hasn't adversely affected the atmosphere too much imho.
Sensational Sunday topped Super Saturday. Proud to be British and let's hope we can exceed the London haul when the final medal count is tallied?

I always enjoy watching the olympics, seeing sports you dont get to see, always enjoy the Volleyball, indoors and out, plus the Badminton has been great so far. Great to see the brits doing well, conducting ourselves magnificently. [Post edited 15 Aug 2016 14:30]
