Mackie 17:36 - Oct 28 with 3955 viewskingo

I am not his greatest fan, although I love his commitment. However, his run yesterday showed all the good and not so good parts of his game. He is very direct and powerful but he hasn't got the technique required at this level. The run yesterday was great and his finish was all he could really do after getting round the last man BUT if that had been virtually any other prem player, he would have gone down with the penultimate challenge. There was 'contact' as we get told by the pundits every week but he elected to stay on his feet rather than sprawl (like Vermalen) and gain an advantage. Admirable that he didn't go down but ultimately he gave the keeper the advantage.

Good point. Some reputations stick with players, good or bad, regardless of whether they've actually improved or got worse in the last year or two... or three...

It's got to be Yarg

As some of you may remember I've been critical if Mackies major technical floors and head down playing style before but I have to say I never preferred SWP. So on the whole I'd agree with the sentiment of this post massively

But...

It was Mackie that Arshavin ghosted past very very easily to supply the cross for the winner. Mackie is a very poor tackler for all his work rate.

MH might argue that for all SWPs faults he is effective at stopping the supply from out wide. And to be fair to Shaun the first 45 at Arsenal was the best he's had in a while. The second was generally shocking.

He did more in 10 minutes than SWp or Park before him has managed and he did it from RIGHT BACK.

I personally would have gone for Faurlin as the player to replace SWP but if not him than Mackie all day every day. If Hughes is picking SWP as some on here suspect for his 'defensive qualities' than you can pick Jamie for the same thing.

Mackie was what our third top goal scorer last season? Surely that's reason enough to keep his place in a team as goal shy as we are!

Plus Park and SWP are chronically off form and Mackie showed more in 15 minutes that either of them has this season in total.

Think he was second highest actually.

HH - 9 goals ??
Mackie - 7 goals
Cissé - 6 goals

He really really has to start games ahead of Sheidt-Phillips and Park.
I think I've given myself a hernia shouting and cursing at Sheidt-Phillips on Saturday

And as for the comment about him going down to 'win' a penalty.. Absolutely farking ludicrous. How pi$$ed off do we get watching the likes of Ashley Young, Gareth Bale, Suárez etc flopping about on the pitch all game long?? I'd rather get a draw at the Emirates from Mackie scoring one of the goals of the season than Tarbs possibly equalising from the penalty spot

Shit but local

But he didn't get the goal because he was too 'honest' and unfortunately the game is now about maximising scoring opportunities which is why the likes of Suarez, Young and Sturridge are seen to be better options. Sad but true reflection on the game that is now called football.

You don't think he might have been slightly off balance after riding 2 challenges to get the ball to that point, which might have affected him?

It wasn't an awful shot at all, but it was straight at the keeper.

That's as may be. I'd rather keep the integrity cheers.

And as for ppl saying it was a bloody awful shot, come on FFS he's just skinned 3 Arsenal players and run 50-odd yards. In his position he elected to try and 'meg the keeper and it nearly came off, he was just unlucky.

People weren't moaning about it being an awful shot when exactly the same type of shot won us a game with Liverpool last year and got us a point at Swansea.

I left when they scored in fact, but have since seen Mackie's miss a few times., The touch around the last defender was probably the best one he has ever done for us, but with the ball fully under control and with no dodgy bounce he plainly just boots it. If that had been by SWP most would have gone mental, as would I.

SWP's never beaten 3 players or been that advanced for us!!

Just watched again now and he does just boot it. Could have placed it in the corner.

The Liverpool goal was lucky - didn't it go straight through the keepers legs?

No. Bottom left hand corner, out of Reina's reach. Good finish.

This is a ridiculous argument really. It's like penalties. I was never happy with Clive Wilson's penalty taking, but they almost always went in and he said once "a good penalty is one that hits the net, a bad penalty is one that doesn't." I was quite happy with Mackie's finishes against Liverpool and Swansea thanks very much, and by the same token he should really have scored on Saturday.

I am mystified why, as we watch what appears to be largely a team of mercenaries lose matches every week, why we're so desperate to write off players as committed to the cause as he is, especially as he has a great goalscoring record for us and isn't nearly as bad as his critics make out.

I'll take him over Park and SWP every day of the week thanks.

I for one bloody Jamie and his straight line running. For some reason the fact he doesn't understand angles and cannot change direction even slightly when on the ball scares the bejesus out of professional defenders. I'd have him start over SWP 100 times out of 100.

There's some unbelievable threads on here at the moment, but this may take the biscuit.
Save your fingers Clive, you're on a hiding to nothing!

Bare bones.

0
Mackie on 17:58 - Oct 29 with 540 viewssimmo

He had a chance saved that he created out of nothing all on his own. If he wasn't on the pitch it wouldn't have happened at all.

Whilst I agree he sometimes lacks the composure of a top top player (it sometimes seems like his enthusiasm just spills over) he has made more than one goal or scoring opportunity with those direct runs. We are in a battle here and in that situation there is no better player to have with you than Jamie Mackie
