In injury time in the second half, someone threw a bottle at one of their players from the safe standing section (Stan Bowles) stand.
It landed off the pitch.
But the referee ran from the centre circle, right over to where it landed, picked it up and then ran directly right across the pitch and placed it, in front of one of the dug outs, off the pitch, then ran to the centre circle and then blew his whistle to restart the game.
This took nearly two minutes of the six minutes injury time.
Great sh*thousery by the ref. Did Sheffield s job for them !!!
CCTV could surely have sorted this.
Was this absolutely necessary ??

I agree with this .
I said on another thread that it felt like both he and linesman were both metaphorically sticking 2 fingers up at us at the end.
Don’t get wrong , if someone throws something in a football stadium then they are an idiot who deserves to be kicked out and dealt with .
But what struck me was the item was no where near the linesman or the playing surface and was right up against the wall . He was in the centre circle and instead of just going straight to the 4th official and reporting the incident and using the cctv that’s in place , he showed the most amazing bit of ‘peacokery’…showing us all his feathers and plumage as he deliberately ran the clock down making us all watch him slowly jog to and fro across the pitch .
If the item is on the playing surface then fine. If the item is a danger to the Lino then fine .
But with 2 mins left I thought it was actually ridiculous and unnecessary. [Post edited 2 Mar 10:44]

Sorry but this was the fans fault and the referee was right to follow protocol on this
That fan lost us the last 2 mins of the match but I’m not sure it would have made much difference we played well but aren’t clinical enough against good opposition |  |

Thought him and the linesman on that side were awful. The ref was a typical homer (for the away side) sucking up to the team likely to be in the Premier League next season.
If the lino did his job properly, he wouldn't get lighters thrown at him. QED.

The decision not to send off Choudury summed that ref up. Would have booked him for the foul on Koki if he hadn't already been on a yellow but bottled it and Wilder subbed him off soon afterwards. Down to ten men for the last quarter and it's a different game. It's weird, when I watch The Big Match Revisited they seem less awful - maybe we need Brian Moore to announce where they're from before kick-off to improve things. | | | |

Sheffield Utd weren’t better than us at all.They were more clinical in that they scored with their 2 shots on target while we missed ours.No way were they better than us in any other department. |  | | |

They walked that game, and never had to get out of 2nd gear. Their midfield bossed ours, their movement was better, their control of the game was better. Nothing wrong with that, they spent a fortune and are still pretty crap and they'll get battered next season.
We are still unable to control a game and put sustained pressure on teams, we are a counter attack team due to the ongoing problem in central midfield.
We gave it a good go though, but Sheff Utd deserved it. | | | |
