I suppose if you ignore the two goals he gave away and the numerous misplaced passes you could argue that he did ok. |
How can you say he gave away 2 goals - he gave away a free-kick for the 2nd (not a goal) - he might have given the ball away for the 1st (not sure if he did or not) but that was not like a bad back-pass, Barkley still had to run 20 yard and then hit a deflected "screamer" into the net - bit harsh on Barton that one. The 3rd was a Green error, though he can be let off that cos of his brilliant performances. |  | | |

Green was only trying to fit in with the rest of them 
OK, his kick was poor but there were enough people back to sort things out. His kick was intercepted by Dunne who lost it. Our marking when defending was woeful, we tended to just put people in the box and hope that would be enough, rather than having a look around and picking up Everton's players. Terrible.

Barton was actually very good when we were down to ten men against Burnley: rushing around, harrying, blocking, disrupting, working hard. That's his game. Where in earth he's got this idea that he's a ball playing midfielder from I do not know. Gave the ball away inside 45 seconds tonight and continued on that course for the next 90. Clearly believes he'd be in the England team without his poor behaviour. In actual fact, if he was Joe Bloggs, he wouldn't even get in the Fleetwood team playing like this. Liability. |
I remember many years ago the same happened with Phil Babb . Played brilliantly for Coventry and also Eire in the World Cup at USA '94 , just did the job he was supposed to do.

I am not a fan of our Joey & can't understand how he was given the job of "midfield destroyer" instead of Karl Henry. It seemed a strange game to give Kelvin a rest from.
Yes, Barton has more natural ability but not to perform that role.
Where I wil defend him though, is that, at least he never shirked away from the Evertonian who won every tackle on the pitch, although some were possible leg breakers on another day.
He was certainly not helped by two of his midfield colleagues refusing to go anywhere near a challenge! | | | |

Here's the point to the original title JB is a THICK C**T (edited by Clive to The Joey Barton thread).
In a professional game of football there are fine lines between a win, loss or a draw. The tiniest of deflections or a poor refereeing decision can define what you get,
What fcuks me off is when a captain decides to blatantly elbow someone in a dangerous position which immediately puts his side under threat & then fculing smile as if he never done it!
