| Forum Thread | The Never-ending Story at 11:11 19 Feb 2023
My concern for a while with the style RM wants to play coupled with the squad and owners we've got is we'll never have a squad which is strong enough or adaptive enough or experienced enough for this style to be successful at Swansea. He has a determination in his beliefs - which is admirable, but it feels we're in a stalemate situation, going nowhere. Repeating the same match scenario's offensively and defensively shouldn't be acceptable - by the players or the manager, but it keeps on happening, so who is going change to solve it ? Its a collective responsibility, but crucially means some sort of change - which isn't happening from the manager perspective or player performance. The squad is what it is....yes we should have strengthened, but we didn't / couldn't in Jan, yet Patterson is our player who has an attitude, and ultimately we've not moved him on, yet not looking to bring him back in to help the squad up. That's down to RM and JP to sort out. How would it look like to draw a line, tell him there's 3 months left for JP to get back out there with the squad, if he deserves his turn, then he can impact what happens next to him. Can't understand why Whittaker doesn't get more time on the pitch.....again, this seems like a RM stance all over it. The kid came back having scored goals, and we've managed to drain any confidence out of him. The owenship doesn't seem to be changing, and I wonder how far RM philosophy can really take him. Unless he adapts, then I suspect he'll be a manager that talks a great game, picks out a few beauty stats such as possession and squad age, but progression ? What happens next is probably nothing, but christ it's frustrating. |
| Forum Thread | Best way to welcome Cooper back ? at 09:52 10 Dec 2021
Shout long and Loud 'Russell Martin's Barmy army' End of. Won't waste energy on Cooper, he drained so much while he was here. If you analyse his time, he made Liverpool a fortune out of Brewster, Chelsea on MG, gave Newcastles squad keeper 2 seasons of 1st team football, and gave Connor Gallagher a shop window. Also, he was luck to have Ayew at his disposal. Yes, he took Swans to the Play Offs, but what impact did he have on the Swans as a club ? Developing players ? promoting academy ? Plus his football was boring to watch, even if effective at times. |
| Forum Thread | Franky G tactics at 16:16 13 Sep 2016
As much as Sunday's line up was a surprise which didn't initially work, The fact Frankie G saw it & changed it must be a positive. I'm sure Neil T regrets being caught on camera being a plonker! 12 months ago, we wouldn't have changed the formation - stuck with it and got honked 4/5-0. Still feel if you want success in this league, pace is key. We started Sunday with no pace. Also, if we need a CM to take the ball in front of the CB, Leon's the man! How many managers go through the cycle of not valuing Leon, then the penny drops! Yes, we rode our luck in the 1st half - but the reaction was good. Thought the crowd on Sunday was top notch. |
| Forum Thread | OK - so let's roll over is it ? at 10:28 8 Dec 2015
I must be honest, I'd love to see Monk do well as a manager, but the reality is it won't be with us. If you look at it, it's been coming now for a few weeks, the whole Pep to Brentford, Chopping and changing the team, not really knowing what his best team is. And the ultimate is that on the field, the greatest piece of evidence to show that it's just not happening for him. Players seem lost, our structure has gone - something we've held in such high regard during our rise. I seriously think he's being let down on so many levels, the lack of support from the coaching team at times is shocking. So let's move on with dignity - We owe that to Monk - sod the others! As a fan, I'm worried, but this is where we can't feel sorry for ourselves. We've got to be a bit more bullish about it. Our team on it's day is good enough to compete, to get goals, to frighten teams. Yes, we're struggling bit style, but I won't roll over and just say we're a small club which had a good couple of years, let go back to where we belong. It's time we stuck together, accept footballing fate never deals in fairytales. Monk was always going to leave at some point, just a matter of if, not when. There's the question of moving the club on, which seems to be the most divided question around for fans - the reality for us is that we've done so well so far, and the board have been immense. Maybe it's time we cut them a little slack here, and accept they've done fantastic for us, and they've got to look at the next step for the Swans. I bet the majority still want to be heavily involved, but to go to the next step is a huge financial burden. I for one think Monks time is up, everyone at the club have a collective responsibility for our position, we all have to buy in to get us out of this situation. |
| Forum Thread | My Worry moving forward at 11:20 9 Nov 2015
....is what does Monk have to do next to stick in the job ? Obviously pick up points, Does he change the team ? What does he do with the style ? Ultimately, there must be a question about motivation in our performance ? We've lost our tempo in our passing + play, which makes you wonder if players have not only lost confidence, but also lost faith in Garry! 2015 games to go.... Bournemouth H - Must Win Liverpool A - Could suit us, might nick a draw Leicester H - Tough, they're flying Man City A - Champions elect ? West Ham H - Jekyll & Hyde! West Brom H - Should beat them Palace A - Tough So, I reckon if we beat B'Mouth & West Brom, pick up 2 Draws, would 8 points get us back on track ? I do fear anything less will mean Monk will be P45-ed in 2016! |

Garry has been a fantastic servant, both player & guiding through the last few months. No doubt, Garry should continue as a coach with us, At the end of the day, he knows the club inside out! But I believe Garry needs time to get his badges & more experience as a coach. He's got a huge role still for us, but I think this summer the club need a strong manager to take the club forward. Think this is a real tough one for a rookie manager who a few months ago was a squad player with these guys. |
