US Election 09:58 - Nov 6 with 7398 views | derbyhoop | As a change from all the gloom and doom, the world's biggest economy goes to the polls today. Any interest? Any predictions? It's going to be close but I believe Obama will keep his job. Audacity of Hope seems to have dwindled considerably.

So, they don't want The Sun banned, they just don't want him controlling any more of the media output in the UK. Different thing, no? I think Murdoch is a tawdry, bullying cu nt who thinks his own views are more important than those of us who actually live here, so I'm not opposed to anything that fu cks him off. Repugnant cun t of a reptile of a man.

US Election on 09:20 - Nov 7 by BlackCrowe | I'm sure I heard on BBC radio this morning that 98% of black Americans that voted, voted for Obama whereas the white vote was split 50/50. If true, that ain't politics that's pretty shocking. Very glad that Obama got the gig though. |
Democratic/Obama votes skewed (very heavily) African-American, (heavily) Latino, Younger and Female.

Perhaps both the left and the right are relaxed about foreigners owning a business in the UK. I was more concerned about foreign newspaper owners, having a say in our internal political issues.

It all depends really whether you're gullible enough to be swayed by a newspaper. Why do people on here automatically assume the "general public" is more stupid and impressionable than they are?If you get drip fed snake venom you gradually build up a resistance.

Well that's what you say, why then did Blair and Cameron want the Sun on their side, they must have thought it would do them some good !! | | | | Login to get fewer ads
US Election on 15:49 - Nov 7 with 470 views | stansleftfoot | Back to the topic, it doesn't matter if one vote got OB to the finishing line. Romney had gathered an economic and policy team from the dark side of George Bush's time. The policies of this team bought the Financial collapse of 2008 and the illegal war with Iraq. Romney was the figure head of the most partizan and dangerous right wing group in America. Obama was left with the results of both these disasters and has created an economy with growth of gdp 3.4% p.a since 2009, and withdrawn troops from Iraq steadily from that point. In addition there is a public health insurance system in place for the elderly, poor and unemployed....can't see what could be seen as wrong with any of those outcomes from his first four years, he deserves another four in my view, along with a majority of people in theStates. Who come from a broad scheme of different backgrounds in America. The world will be a better and safer place with Obama as President rather than Romney and his henchmen. Research the background of MR's advisors and their political and ethical views.

As a member if the US general public I voted for Obama, but work daily with Tea partiers who, like so many here, often have to make a choice between food and medicine even as they work sh$t jobs--still can't fathom why they vote against their own interests except if you take into account the well publicized survey that showed those who watched Fox news know less about current events than those who watch no news at all. To be clear, Obama is centrist but the vociferous right will label anything remotely communitarian, such as public education and emergency medical care, as socialism (their polite euphemism for pinko Commies). What's nice (for me) is the trend that makes the US increasingly left leaning on social issues, against the likelihood that the Republicans will cry out that McCain and Romney failed because they were too moderate. Oh and austerity as a policy seems to have been an ideological overstatement, proven wrong in the case I'd the US auto bailout and growing evidence in Europe.

This thread is about the US Election and my point was meant to say, only American owned Newspapers / Media are allowed to publish and broadcast in the USA. Murdoch had to change his Nationality to own the Fox Corporation to be able to do this. All I'm saying the same rule should apply in the UK, nothing more.

Sadly it will make no difference who you vote for as their hands will be tied as ALL presidents since Jefferson have by the central bank of America(privately owned),as we are learning(or not) as the media(privately owned) continues with it's blackout on ALL stories covering public gatherings across Europe AND the states decrying the fact that the central bank of America is in fact taking countries gold reserves as collateral for funding their (the banks surely!) debt.....let's face it,any system that will excecute thousands of it's own citizens to remove their constitutional rights HAS to be overthrown, which would be the very excuse used in the middle east.....unfortunately for 'Team America' the world is aware that 911 was an 'inside job'.......I wish you as an individual well, but your country and all that it stands for is pure fantasy whilst the truth is nearer to disgusting.....for the record EVERY single explosion in the united states has been carried out by americans......since 1776 anyway.......the sooner your people realise what they are being used for, the better for all of you really..........

I am not sure that words like 'centrist', 'right', or 'communitarian' are that helpful in understanding either Obama or Romney. Ha Joon Chang's 'Bad Samaritans', a study of the rise of East Asian capitalism, makes the point that because state intervention in Korea was carried out under military dictatorship, it has no association with socialism, as it does in Britain or America. Chang also makes the point, that in certain fields, American development is actually *very* state-led: "Moreover, even when it shifted to freer (if not absolutely free) trade, the US government promoted key industries by another means, namely, public funding of R&D. Between the 1950s and the mid-1990s, US federal government funding accounted for 50-70% of the country’s total R&D funding, which is far above the figure of around 20%, found in such 'government-led' countries as Japan and Korea. Without federal government funding for R&D, the US would not have been able to maintain its technological lead over the rest of the world in key industries like computers, semiconductors, life sciences, the internet and aerospace."

Just watching the news and they showed the Republicans in Boston as it dawned on them they had lost. My 9 year old daughter asked ' how come there are no black people in the crowd ?'. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20237147 [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]
