Reasonable Weekend For Saints So Far
Reasonable Weekend For Saints So Far
Monday, 17th Dec 2012 10:00

Its been a reasonable weekend for Saints so far, we now need Arsenal to round it off tonight by beating Reading.

Its a fact of life that when you are in a relegation fight you need the teams around you to keep dropping points and the more they drop the easier it makes your task, this weekend saw Saints have to sit back and watch the opposition and although it wasnt perfect and we did drop a place, overall it was reasonable.

Wigan losing at Norwich and Sunderland at Manchester United all went to form and kept two of the clubs we will need to be overhauling by the end of the season down there with us.

QPR winning was perhaps not the best result for us and it brought them within five points, but by beating Fulham they still left their London neighbours looking over their shoulders at us and I just have a sneaky feeling that Fulham might get draggged into things, so this result might actually be crucial to someon hopefully us come May.

Newcastle getting beaten by Man City was good as well, clearly something isnt right up on Tyneside and they remain only two points ahead of us, whilst I think they will have the players to get out of it stranger things have happened and to be blunt who would have predicted they would still be down here in December two months ago.

The result that did go against us though was Aston Villa's win at Liverpool, no one saw that one coming, from the look of things Villa started the game at Anfield in a similar position as to us, they got battered in the opening stages, however they held out and kept on catching Liverpool on the break fully deserving their win, the next few weeks could see Villa pull out of sight or it could be this result is just a one off, hopefully the later.

A crucial time coming up for Saints with Xmas sure to sort out the wheat from the chafe as it usually does.

I think we are going to have to win a game or two that nobody expects us to if we are to stay up.
i.e. Villa at Pool style result

I think you mean chaff.
Lambert seems to have Villa pretty well organised. Unless Benteke gets injured I can see them finishing mid-table, which is a shame. On the plus side, should our rate of improvement continue, then the Europa league awaits. Merry Christmas!

If we look at our rate of improvement, we have got 12 points from our last 10 games, with 21 games left that average would give us a grand total of 39 points come the end of the seaso, just enough to scrape relegation

StSaint is saying if our rate of improvement continues. Another 1.2 points a game (last 10 game trend) for the remaining 21 games would not constitute a continuing improvement, rather us continuing current trend. Mid-table is a tad ambitious but I can see us continuing to pick up a greater number of points over the next 10 game periods (learn to read Nick).
