Cooper sacked on 11:38 - Nov 25 by raynor94 | I was gutted at the time of out defeats to Brentford and did tend to blame Cooper for it. After the dust settled and you look at the players Brentford had and what they have gone on to become they were just a better team at that time |
Think most didn't expected a positive result, we all hoped for the best, Cooper actually picked a more attacking team instead of having both Bidewell and Manning on the left he chose Lowe who hadn't been the preferred selection up to that point in the league team. We got caught at the back and Fulton's sending off ended any real chance of recovering the game.

Cooper sacked on 11:40 - Nov 25 by TimBowen | This comment is not aimed as criticism at anyone in particular, it's just a general comment. I had a relative suffering from Macular Degeneration and it's a heartbreaking condition, which affects the centre of a person's vision, leading on, in some cases to full blindness. I believe I read how Steve Cooper's eyesight has required a couple of operations already and he's described how a routine eye examination, helped to identify his diagnosis. There but for the grace of god etc etc... |
Exactly. It is worth noting he is looking much better around the eyes compared to his days at Swansea on very little money. Some may chuckle, but it is evident. However, that launched a very successful manager merry go round career with two very nice pay off’s. The latter making him a multi millionaire. I wish him well.

Cooper sacked on 10:04 - Nov 25 by RichardO | Was it naive of Cooper to expect the pay rise after the loss of the Parachute payments, the team ended up have the three players if not more Downes, Ntcham, Paterson, Obefemi and Piroe but was missing a defence, did we get Wood and Darling the following year it all blurs into one? |
The names you mention I believe came during Martin’s time. Good players too. Bar the one who committed mischief. Or the two.

Cooper sacked on 09:41 - Nov 25 by KeithHaynes | We reported on it as it happened. From the day after the play off final. He asked for 50k pay rise ( he was on 96k) and three players. Those players were not millions. The club said they couldn’t support that, so Cooper stated I can’t manage without help. (horses mouth ) This after two play offs. They negotiated his terms to leave. It’s what Kaplan and Levien wanted, they killed us at every turn. I’ve put the long history of reports on here before today. |
Whatever Keith. All that should have waited until after Wembley. Had he motived the team properly that day and got us promoted, he would have been in a much stronger position to discuss new terms. He let the supporters, the players, staff and himself down with his lack of application that day

I agree. Yes he got us into the playoffs twice. Yet look at Gareth Southgate. He went close a few times with England yet failed to win anything so doubt too many England fans cried at his departure??

My recall is most came directly after Cooper left, were they in the pipeline before Cooper left as for Darling and Wood I did mention that I thought they came in Russell second season. [Post edited 25 Nov 19:14]

I just remembe us having a distinct advantage when they had a chap sent off. Then ,we should have gone for the jugular . Anyway,it’s gone ,he’s gone and it’s all about the Now ( great band ) and the future .

I wish him well also decent man, who tried and done his best for us, he brought some talented players here through his connections as well Brewster was phenominal for us, great pity that a promising career has stalled for Coops and Brewster. [Post edited 25 Nov 19:46]

Sadly both Ayew brother have a reputation for choking in the big games for Ghana. Andre on huge money missed a penalty v Brentford before scoring in the game the Brentford player was sent off. The spectre of crass media bias was there for all to see after pundits from old London town claimed the full back with a long run up lunge put both the ball and Connor Roberts into the stand and was harshly treated. Cooper did not go for the throat v 10 men. 1-0 up.

Was it a lack of motivation? I remember us being out played by a better team. We didn't strengthen in midfield in January that season. The lad from Villa just strolled around most of the game. It was a missed opportunity to invest and get us back in the Prem. Instead we took the cheap option.

Whatever happened on the field was influenced by Cooper's choice of players if you are saying he didn't have the right ones Also on the day his mind was elsewhere so not exactly a great motivation whatever the players supposed shortcomings?

I believe on the day he made the wrong choices. However I answered in reply to the post suggesting we had a weak squad due to taking taking the cheap option. Well ultimately it is up to the manager to refuse to accept those players or manage then to the best of his and their ability. At the end of the day he didn't give a flying fig at Wembley as he had made his mind up to go. If he hadn't he certainly did a good impression of someone who had.

We reported the very next day that an interview had taken place and the club, as they do with numerous employees orchestrated an impossible situation which led to him leaving.

"Impossible" is a relative word. It sounds as if his wages according to your reports that his salary was low by championship standards. However it was a contract that he signed and the Swansea job set him on his way to several millions he can put in his back pocket. He is now the richest man in the Rhondda. Another that should send a little thank you note to Levien for rubber stamping his appointment in his first managerial job. His loans were the who s who of top Euro talent. Gibbs White on loan did not come cheap. Levien had not budget left and drummed up two full US internationals. Cooper was not impressed but then again arranged a taxi for Gyorkeres back to Brighton. It worked out at £400,000 a mile over the last 4 years. Arriola and Morris were decent. Probably at the level of Welsh players. Wes Burns who went to the Premier league with Ipswich. Why did Brighton recall him then? He was on a season long loan and Brighton were not impressed by his game time. Had Cooper told them he was in his plans and COVID was the reason he would have complete his year. Cooper wanted Keinan Davis and was perfectly happy to send him back. Davis cost roo much or did not want to come. Morris and Arriola came instead. Cooper messed up.
