Eye witness suggests there’s a passing point that the train usually stops at but for whatever reason whether the brakes failed or there was some other problem caused it to roll down the slope. |  |

How much safer would Welsh roads be if only Drakeford had accepted the offer of the UK government to fully find the M4 relief road as part of the UK Infrastructure fund. Drakeford happily accepted UK taxpayers money, paid via the EU, to upgrade the heads of the valley road. | |

In September 2023, Wales became the first nation in the UK to introduce a default 20mph speed limit. The change applied to restricted roads only, usually in residential and built-up areas.
The figures, published by the Welsh Government, show 78 people were killed or seriously injured on 20mph and 30mph roads between January and March 2024, compared to 101 in the first quarter of 2023
That included five fatalities on 20mph and 30mph roads, compared to 11 in the same period in 2023.
The figures also show a 26% reduction for casualties of all severities.
The Welsh government said the data on casualty figures were “encouraging and show things are moving in the right direction”. | |

When it was introduced HS2 was designated an England and Wales project. Northern Ireland and Scotland subsequently received additional funding to make up for the fact HS2 wasn’t improving the railway infrastructure in their countries. Even though HS2 didn’t benefit Wales, the government’s designation of the project as England and Wales meant we lost out on £4bn.
Wales has 11% of the rail network, but between 2011and 2016 Wales received just 1% of the enhancement/ upgrading budget.
Had we had some of that funding, Railtrack or Network rail could have upgraded our infrastructure and we’d have faster, safer services. | | | |
