The immigration issue is down to the conservatives, they have to own this mess. The Conservatives had a massive majority in parliament and the ability to legislate and force through anything they wanted to.

The bottom line is that the parts of government saw immigration as a means of boosting growth across the economy and that was the key driver for the Government and Treasury. Immigration was a means of swelling the State coffers which could then be used for government spending. The Conservatives couldn’t agree a coordinated policy on immigration which is why they had a split in the party between those who wanted tighter controls and those who didn’t.

What Labour said or did had no bearing on the Conservative Party.

There was more than a little Tory incompetence and chaos, but I agree that the present dire financial situation is largely down to the very large sums paid (and borrowed) for COVID support, energy support and help with the cost of living, and in each area Labour said at the time the help was insufficiently generous. This is the alleged 14 years of Tory misrule (not forgetting that the first five years was actually shared with the Lib Dems, and this was the period of maximum austerity).

Every penny of COVID money was created and added to the national debt. Hence the huge inflation and why a cappuccino now costs over £4 from a sh*te chain café.

It’s lazy to say it’s nothing to do with labour, when labour were saying the conservatives were all far right racists for not allowing enough in, or being cruel for not handing out even more money.

They call Indian background women who are children of legal migrants racists FFS. Labour are a cancer.

They wanted even worse and watch them do it now they have a majority.

And I do rather remember that it was under Blair that unsustainable population increase(s) started, where it was stated that uncontrolled imigration "Diversity" numbers were to be used as a weapon against the Tories, which ended up with the Tories copying the Labour project anyhow.

The Tweedledee and Tweedledumb and even dumber double act!

You think covid money caused the inflation, there's a lot more to it than that.

Are you really trying to say the tories did anything based on what Labour said about them?

That's why the tories told so many lies then, because Labour called them liars?

I have read very little more ridiulous than that.

Face it, both parties are a cancer in this country. Both parties have done harm to the UK in pursuit of their agendas.

Since when did calling people or a person out for being something mean you are responsible for them being what they have been called?

If I called you an obnoxious pillock would I be responsible for you being an obnoxious pillock? I'm not calling you that obviously, it's an example.

Yesi Indeed, we've had approx two months of "smashing the gangs" by having thousands more (7,477) arrive since election, and having 5,000 extra hotel beds allocated for illegal’s so that they can be further incentivised with freebies to use those "small boat gangs" in the first place.

[Post edited 31 Aug 17:10]

Did you know the 5,000 empty hotel rooms are a legacy from the previous Conservative Government?

The previous conservative government failed to resolve the issue of small boat arrivals in 5 years, it’s completely unrealistic to expect our new government to resolve the situation in 8 weeks. You mention 7,477 arrivals in 8 weeks - at 1 point under the previous regime we had 1,300 new arrivals in 3 days!

The 5,000 empty rooms are part of a contingency plan created under the previous Conservative government for a buffer to deal with increased number of small boat arrivals as there wasn’t enough space at the detention centres. It just so happens the last government closed 2 detention centres, however they’ve since been reopened by the new government and will hopefully be able to save us some money. The 5,000 rooms are over and above the 50,000 individuals the government were accommodating in other hotels at cost to us of £6m per day. All this was reported to the relevant select committee in 2023 - it’s been in the public domain for over a year. The last government spent £7.5bn on migrants in 2 years, wasn’t the budget something like £300m which means we the tax payer has to pick up the tab for an overspend of £7.2bn.

There’s a lot of work to be done to sort the small boat situation out but the current regime have hardly got their feet under the table. They need to be given time before we judge their efforts.

Why is this simple fact so fvcking hard to understand.

Labour would have done the same as the conservatives but on top of that spent even more money during COVID and let more people in. This is just a fact. The conservatives are a centre/centre left party.

The point is that people are so stuck on the pathetic party politics talking points that they can’t see the bigger picture. Little sheep voting for labour or the conservatives thinking anything will actually get better 😂.

Yes, conservatives were sh!te. Focusing on history won’t solve anything and labour will make the problem worse. That’s the point. They won’t fix anything. 😂

Not my Labour Party. I’ve never voted for them and I don’t particularly like them, but our last government was the worst bunch of crooks and chancers we’ve ever had in charge - the country is in a mess as a direct result of their incompetence.

Even though I don’t like Labour, the way some are whitewashing the total incompetence of the last 5 years and blaming Starmer et all is incredible and I will highlight and comment on it. Blaming Starmer for the 5,000 empty rooms which has been that way for several years is unbelievable.

Edit- typo added the word never in the first line as I missed it out from my original post.

I think there's a difference between blaming and refusing to absolve from blame.

Absolutely the blame for the current state of the UK rests with the previous Government, but you can't avoid the reality that their every attempt to solve a lot of the problems was opposed by the new Government.

To some extent Labour bear some responsibility too.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

People who voted labour “to stick it to the tories” will see very quickly that they’ve yet again been duped by the Labour Party.

Labour will do fvck all about illegal migration. They called any attempt to stop it racist or inhumane. They demonise anything and everything and say they would give more money, they would be ‘compassionate’ etc.

Labour voting sheep think labour will actually now go and sort out the economy and immigration. Dream on! The boats will continue, no one will report on it apart from GB news, and they’ll be called racist and any other pathetic ad hominem.

Bang on!

Aye "smashing the gangs" by incentivising and encouraging a relentless customer base to continue to use small boat smuggling gangs, by allocating freebie hotel spaces and beds to attract even more to come over here to live free of charge. And to live in better conditions than many struggling U.K residents do.

Apparently Labours refusal to cancel what the Tories had previoulsy planned must now be blamed entirely upon the Tories, despite the Tories no longer having 'F'-all to do with it anymore, and the fact that Labour has cancelled other Tory policies.

Even got away with the WMD claims you stated which were not proven later .

UK has foodbanks , overcrowded schools and youngsters who cannot get on the property ladder to make good for themselves going forward .

Not for me to say where my hard earned taxes should be spent but my local swimming pool was condemenned and shut down today , no money to save it , my children learned to swim there , a real life saver when necessary .

Under the last Labour government the vast majority of people who came here illegally were deported almost immediately and without any fuss.

In the intervening years however with merkel and the EU inviting half of the third world to come no questions asked and the increasing judicial activism of the ECHR the problem has exponentially grown and it’s getting harder and harder to get rid of these chancers.
