Roberto Martinez: “I always wanted to be loyal and finish the job.” on 21:17 - Dec 2 by Boundy | In my humble opinion it was Flynn who started the process , much harder to do when creating a style , Martinez tweaked it and admittedly improved it but was Flynn who set us on our way |
In my humble opinion Flynn was a waste of space. We were mid table in League Two and spiralling downwards when he got the sack for not even bothering to come all the way back with the team from yet another embarassing away defeat. He was a lazy, useless, tactically incompetent berk. Martinez undoubtedly started the pretty football, but the person who actually instilled professionalism back into the club after several years of chaos was Kenny Jackett, and he'll never get the credit he deserves for it.

Tate. Britton. Trunde. Robinson. Martinez all signed by Flynn. Two still around the club one only left last season after 20 years at the club. This post ranks as one of the worst I have read on this forum and that includes the Frank Zappa (useful idiot poodle). Jacketts once picked 6 centre backs for Swansea. Gueret in front of a sold six. Amankwaah Lawrence Iriekpen Austin Tate Oleary DMF Amankwak came as a CB converted to FB. SIX centre backs. Needless to say the performance was uninspiring, [Post edited 5 Dec 2022 15:17]

Roberto Martinez: “I always wanted to be loyal and finish the job.” on 15:27 - Dec 5 with 1081 views | ReslovenSwan1 | It is peculiarity of Swansea fans and it is inversionally proportional. THE BETTER YOU DO THE MORE THE JACKS HATE YOU.. It is the 'Jackett syndrome'. Do not do well do not do badly. Just be OK and be loved. Attractive football? Jackett not required. Martinez, Flynn, Brendan, Morgan, Jenkins all in the dog house. It is the logic of 'stone cold losers'. The organisation owned by the fans are the definition of this. They have negotiated a 5% holding for ever for the perks and a place on the board and now can go back to sleep.

Innit. Even Trundle gave KJ the credit for finally turning him into a proper professional footballer in terms of his fitness and dedication. They spent much of their time on the piss when Flynn was manager.

Flynn was an excellent scout and spotter of talent for us and Wales, that's why we re-employed him as a scout when we were in the Premier League. As for a coach/manager he was usless and lacked any commitment, relying on his backroom staff to do his job. He wanted to be in Swansea two days a week and often turned up mid morning for matches. The club correctly threw him out.

Flynn was big mates with Kevin Reeves who was an excellent scout and spotter of talent. Take Reeves away and you've got an idiot who couldn't even be bothered to put in a three day week. I'm not generally a huge backer of footballing conspiracy theories, but I do give some credence to the one where Flynn is forced to play James Thomas, who had managed twelve goals in about fifteen games before the Port Talbot midget forced him out wide into irrelevancy, back in the central strikers position, resulting in four goals in two games that kept us up.

My eyes are bleeding reading that guff. It’s incredible how quickly a posters quality plummets over the years. This year you seem to have just morphed into simply click bait and abuse type trolling. Yuck

4500 fans cannot be wrong Right? You bet they can. I saw that game. MOM was Nathan Dyer as a centre forward . He ran the Wigan CB lumps ragged. Signed by Roberto. Roberto sold him the Swansea dream and left . Dyer was none too pleased i suspect. One of his best games after Wembly obviously.

The name calling and abuse towards one of the most important managers in our history. We were in League 2, we are hardly going to get Pep. Flynn was excellent for us and his work to acquire players such as Trundle, Robbo, Martinez etc put us on the map and laid the foundation for the likes of Martinez. Silly jibes about his appearance won’t go down well with fans that remember.

The name calling was after your post so you weren't referring to that, Flynn lost interest if I remember correctly and was in danger of undoing his previous good work. Similar, albeit leagues and yrs apart to ML.

What post were you reading then? Calling him a waste of space? An incompetent berk? Lazy and useless? It’s in the post I replied to and he clearly was nothing of the sort. Not something I’m going to lie about. He then continued the theme talking about his appearance. Awful stuff. He was, and will remain, fondly remembered as a very important figure in getting this club back on the map by those who know what’s what, not forgetting masterminding the great escape when we looked completely doomed. Expecting a polished and finished article of a manager at that level for a club like ours is silly. Of course he had flaws, if he didn’t he wouldn’t have been with us. But despite his flaws he managed to achieve superb things with us and lay a wonderful foundation - criticising a bottom of league 2 manager for having flaws is the epitome of futile. Didn't he refuse to travel from Burnley midweek, to take training sessions during that second season. Agree he did a sterling job keeping us up, but definitely lost interest and motivation and was rightly moved on, which preserved his legacy.

Lots of people have refused to do things. Laudrup, Guidolin, Gylfi and Pato being four that immediately come to mind. Would any of the above receive such abuse? Most certainly not. Flynn ranks above a fair few people often seen as instrumental to our rise that nobody would have a bad word said about. Again, a league 2 manager, 20 years ago being held to todays standards is silly. A waste of space, incompetent and a berk he most certainly wasn’t.

Roberto Martinez: “I always wanted to be loyal and finish the job.” on 14:09 - Dec 8 with 754 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Flynn was raised in Port Talbot but home in Burnley. No doubt he could stay in Port Talbot with family when in his work duties no bother at all . I am sure he was not an absentee coach. I recall Huw Jenkins wanted him to commit longer term and requested he moved down which BF might have declined to do. When results turned it became a bigger issue and a justification for moving on. HJ then declared any new coach like Jackett Laudrup etc had to be resident in Swsnsea. I recall Laudruo was sacked after visiting some function his daughter had in Paris and giving the team a day off after a poor performance v West Ham. Same result. It is the results.

Yet despite an indifferent results record it seems the current manager/coach is going to have his contract extended
