Well, the money markets didn't like the mini budget.
I met Liz Truss in a hotel in Monmouth a few years ago.
She said her solution to pensioner poverty would be to feed them on Pedigree Chum.
Not only would this save a lot of money, it would give them shiny coats and a nice cold nose.

I also know several white couples in their 70's, and i can confirm they mix complan in their Quakers oats and play rummikub in the afternoons.

Anyone else got any absorbing and quirky Anecdotes on white couples (preferably aged in their 70's) , that they may have encountered down through the years?

Probably exactly the same problem within the Labour Party.

So that's okay then is it?

Rather have the trusterfåck make us all poorer would you?

Rather than get the better qualified guy in because he got a bit of extra melanin pumping round his veins. Jesus.

Just watched his documentary on Netflix last night. Magic. Love Keef. Although he did appear to be wearing a set of Arthur ASkeys spoons weaved into his Barnet.

I wonder if Keef can confirm in his Next Rockumantary if he has known any white couples in their 70's and can confirm any tantalising tales about them.

If Only Lester Bangs from Rolling stone Magazine had asked Keef about it back in the day.

you said it would have been the same with the other party.

I'd of far rather had sunack and we wouldn't all be paying 100bn extra in debt interest for the next 30 yrs. It was mentioned it could be due to his race, which i could well believe

I'd vote for a mixed race hippopotamus If I thought for a minute that said mixed race hippopotamus could get us out of this embarrassing mess.

Shame that 'race' has reared It's ugly head on this thread and more pillock me for getting involved.

I'd take a 0-0 right now regarding todays result.

Money and corruption are ruining the land, crooked politicians betray the working man, pocketing the profits and treating us like sheep, and we're tired of hearing promises that we know they'll never keep.

Yeah if only we had a way of knowing who was responsible for this absolute clusterfuvk of a prime minister.

And I keep seeing this ‘Labour will be just as bad’ narrative. They’ll certainly have to get quite creative to even do half the damage over 4/5 years that our current government has managed in a few weeks.

I haven't voted Conservative for about 40 years now but if I had a vote in their leadership contest, I'd have had Braverman as my first choice and Badenoch as my second, Sunak would have been my very last choice (a complete weasel of a man).

I have been a Conservative voter since Blair (some(Baz) would say that was a tory vote anyway ) I wanted Mordaunt and still do.My own views are centrist

If there was an election today i would vote Labour. Starmer is vanilla /beige but maybe we need that at the moment .

For those that demand a GE now I totally understand , but you cant change the rules at half time . We do not vote for a PM but a party to govern.

Extremist views left and right do not win elections , this market turbulence would have occurred if Corbyn had won in 2019. he was unelectable , Truss is unelectable .

I would get Truss out , cancel all of the mini budget, get Mordaunt or Sunak in . Bring forward the GE to the summer to get the best turnout. Get Covid and hopefully the war in the rear view mirror and let the country decide our direction . Labour in my view should campaign to stay out of the EU but rejoin the single market to respect the closeness of the referendum result . The Torys would have to choose their own stance . The country needs to unite as best possible .

Thats it from me on the politicals for a bit

The country won't unite, you have only to see the posts of Bazza / Jimmy to know that a proportion of the country want extreme left-wing policies whilst others seek the complete opposite. There is not enough middle ground left to run a government that will unite the people.

Don't want an extreme left or right at all. I want investment in individuals/public services. Better positive linkages in economically disadvantaged communities, education, healthcare, transport, affordable housing. A reduction in the negative externalities private enterprise/capitalism creates and a more equitable society so da yout dem aren't stabbing each other over 10 bags of weed. If the conservatives or anyone else put forward a credible plan to achieve even some of the above, i'd vote for them.

What have you got to say on the matter ' it would have been just as bad under labour' & its not because the conservatives didn't want vote in a guy with a tan?

I voted for Blair.

Corbyn himself might have Left wing beliefs but the manifesto was pretty much the Social Democrat model of the Nordic nations.

Quite tame in reality. I agree that he and Labour would have struggled with Covid and the fiscal crisis but I think we’d agree his/their actions would be a lot more humane.

"Am I the only one who is uncomfortable about the idea of the bank of England printing money to give to private pension funds? What other investments are they planning to bail out in future?

As for the affordability of public pensions, the issue is that a lot of them are index linked so are going up a lot faster than the wages of the people being taxed to pay for them. Also you have a situation where the people paying for them are never going to get the same deal when it's their turn.

I know some on defined benefit public sector pensions that are getting a £5k rise in it this year, that's more than someone on minimum wage will get in total for their pension if they even get to retire. It feels unfair and unsustainable."

Your not alone, I find it quite amazing. Isnt there a standard message that the value of investments can go down as well as up> if we choose to live with free market economics then we have to expect there will be dips as well as peaks.

The 19.2 billion the BOE have just spent propping up gilts could have bought us approx 190 HS2 projects or equivalent infrastructure projects. Imagine if that money has been invested in green energy, water utility upgrades, railways and other transport upgrades

as a society we are generally being robbed blind whilst being dazed and confused by misdirection from the government and institutions

All fair points : that is a good summary
Brexit will prove to be a narrow escape if the remainders in the Conservative and Labour parties etc do not get their way.
But in truth both the uk and France Southern Europe etc have been spending beyond their means for years.
I hope Labour supporters know this applies to them as well.
I hope remainders realise any closer links with EU means our poor paying for their poor.
Uk dept is 20-30 % lower than most EU countries bar Germany and Netherlands.
I refuse to pay for French socialism
