Cardiff City v Swansea City Leckwith ish. Saturday December 12th 2020 Kick off 12.30pm
Officials JOHN BROOKS Nick Greenhalgh and Akil Howson Fourth Official : Keith Stroud
TV : Swans TV & Sky Sports
It’s Welsh derby time, the real Welsh derby where by all accounts form counts for nothing. Over the years it’s apparent that the swans hold the kudos as Wales premier footballing team, no doubt. Compared to Cardiff who have spent two unsuccessful seasons in the premier league the swans have had a top ten finish, wowed the football world with their style of play, and won a major trophy. European campaigns are ‘foreign’ to Cardiff.
What is a Cardiff To be perfectly honest a Cardiff is a thing of joy, an ever evolving gift of failure and unhappiness, and joy for all swans fans. Having taken four points off them last season, quickly forgotten by the reds, or blues or whatever this fixture goes ahead without fans. It could prove a slight leveller for Cardiff not having that daft accent being screamed at them continuously for ninety minutes. To understand a Cardiff you have to understand that Barcelona, that pretty decent side in Spain have always aspired to be as big as the South Wales club. For years they have spoken of being the new Cardiff, their fan base requiring the whole of a country to follow them. You can quickly see where the issues are.
The people who dwell in this area are quite small, almost dwarf like which gives further insight in to their mindset. Being small people ( not land of the giants small ) that would be very odd, they have the desire to thrust their opinions on anyone who will listen. Which isn’t a lot of people. Before history started Cardiff was a village, about the same size as their home attendances for midweek games, a few hundred souls huddled together by a smelly river. They actually evolved from a river fish called a ‘Claaaaaaarkes’ bottom feeder, this would later become the areas only claim to fame. This fish by all accounts lived in the river beds of Cardiff village fearing that locals would try and talk to them and do their heads in. Later, as sperm was invented and Cardiff people stopped eating it the fish became agile enough to leave their homes. They grew tin foil feet and developed a pastry based topping. Their insides were made of dried mud and lumps of brown jelly. The ‘Claaaaaaaarkes’ bottom feeder without knee caps was born.
The ‘Claaaaaarkes’ pie, with an E. See the mud combination ?
The football club, which formed before Barcelona hence the connection Is often revered by people who aren’t too good at reading but enjoy fiction. There are a wealth of fictional tales of glory and success written by such wonderful names like Anus as an example. You will often find words in these books, well, sort of words which have been passed down the bottom feeder family tree. ‘Ninian Paaaaaaaark’ Road is a term often used by taxi drivers who recently passed their tests when driving was allowed in the area. About 2006. When they go to the bank they say ‘Baaaaaaaaarclays’ and their only well known figure is Frank Hennessy who invented eating and talking hence the dialect. Frank is dead now, but other people who sound like him often gather together and practice eating and talking in what sounds like a choking gurgle recently injected with hallucinating liquid or porridge.
The bottom feeder in illustration. This is Frank Hennessy’s father on a sunny day
The match Referee John Brooks Brookie as we know him, or Brooksy, Brooko, sometimes Johnny or Jonno, even JB, or the J Bro, J or Brookla to his mate Dave, is a referee. He lives in Leicester and hasn’t reffed a swans game this year, not season, year. He has reffed Cardiff twice and said after both games ‘What a pile of old garbage they are, I will make sure they lose the Welsh derby’ or words to that effect. He isn’t a referee with a lot of bad decisions made, unless you count in Cardiff who have never been happy with him in the past. And that doesn’t count. Because they are very small people which makes their brains even smaller than the average rat.
Brooks bonded to the game
Cardiff City players to look out for Tom Watson Born in 1903 Watson was a feature of the very recent FA cup game at Wembley. Now 117 years of age he has been used less and less in recent times but never say never. Cardiff fans know all about him, they talk about him a lot, and they love 1927 even more. It was so recent it makes sense to talk about it, nobody apart from Tom Watson is still alive from that day.
Here is Tom running about at Wembley, he could easily feature in Saturdays game as he is only 117 years of age. The low attendance that day, 91,000 was boosted by quite a few thousand football fans from Swansea, saving the blushes of Cardiff’s modern day support.
TEAM NEWS LATEST
What is the latest team news?
Cardiff are sweating on the fitness of summer signing Harry Wilson.
The Wales international was withdrawn during the Bluebirds' 2-1 win over Stoke City in midweek due to an arm injury.
And Neil Harris has admitted the problem could sideline the versatile attacker this weekend, although Wilson will be given until the day of the game to prove his availability.
Isaac Vassell (quad) and Jordi Osei-Tutu (hamstring) both remain sidelined while Lee Tomlin is not expected to be available until January at the earliest after undergoing groin surgery.
Swansea will once again be without Morgan Gibbs-White (foot) and George Byers (groin).
They also have concerns over Ryan Bennett and Marc Guehi ahead of the game in the Welsh capital.
Bennett has missed Swansea's last two games due to a hamstring issue while Guehi sat out the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth after taking a blow to the head in the Swans' 2-0 triumph over Luton Town.
Both defenders will be given every opportunity to prove their fitness ahead of the game at Cardiff City Stadium.
Managers Thoughts
Cardiff Manager Neil Harris:
“It’s a huge game. Bragging rights are at stake. It’s a massive game. I was watching some footage earlier of the game back in January. The stadium was packed, atmosphere was electric. Both clubs will miss the fans. It’s a great fixture in the football calendar, one of the biggest games of the season in the Championship.
“Fans will be missed but it doesn’t take away the importance of it.“
“We know the importance to the fan base.“
Harris was asked if he understood the importance of this game for the Cardiff fans,
“Course I do. It’s never lost on me.“
“In my playing career, they are the best games to play in.
“I know the importance to the fan base and that will certainly be mentioned in the changing room. It already has been.
“It’s not a joy for people in lockdown in the lead up to Christmas and they can’t watch their team. There’s been a hardship and we have an opportunity to put smiles on faces.“
Swansea manager Steve Cooper also spoke about the fans:
“It will be different in terms of the game and atmosphere,
“They were electric atmospheres last season, as anyone who was there will tell you, so we can’t shy away from it, it is different.
“That’s why you cannot compare with previous seasons or previous games.
“But is a game that means an awful lot to supporters, it’s one we really want to win and one we want to really commit to and attack.
“It is for the supporters. I want them to see a team working hard and giving their best because football is so important to so many people.
“It will be a perfect chance to give a bit back and we will be committing to that.”

Strangely this triangular corner flag myth is said to have started after the 1927 FA Cup Final.
Cardiff trying to turn a myth into history!!
It's what they do. They are the most deluded set of fans in the country by a far stretch. From believing they are as potentially as big as Everton, to my personal favourite of stating they should sign Eider Gudjohnson who was in Barcelona's first choice 11 at the time! A very strange bunch indeed, and i cannot for the life of me fathom out where this delusion originates from? Maybe it is from that one year in the last 60 that they managed to avoid being relegated from the top flight from the 4 they've spent in it over that period? And that was 58 years ago!
Bless em.

I think Hammam wound them all up - that’s where all this Capitol bullsh*t came from. He gave them the sense of entitlement which in reality has made a lot of them look like complete idiots.
There may have been a few beauts before that time but he was the catalyst for their ridiculous warped self importance which funnily enough peters out as soon as the get over the bridge .
He’s still lionised by their loonies even though he tried to screw them with his loan notes fiasco. They got what they deserved there lol.
Each time I go to Bedd - au........................

Without doubt the most deluded fans in the country, no debate at all with that one. It must of come from the days of Sam Hammam and the bought into the "bigger than Barcelona" stuff.
Funny as f*ck.
Edit - Just noticed Brynnie said the same. Spot on imo.

You've misquoted me there - go back and actually see what i wrote, but well done you've got the song correct. Its a song we sing too but if we go round scrutinising the origins of songs it may uncover some unfortunate truths - especially when your in a habit of looking at other teams' songs. Oh dear you obviously don't know your own clubs history. Go and check and let us know how many seasons you've spent in the division above the one you're currently in. I brought that up due to some reference about clubs finding their level after a while. Kind of shows a similar fate for yourselves considering your phobia of the top division . Not my narrative but that's ample length I'd say to demonstrate this trend wouldn't you say? Ah so you had such low attendances for many many years because you were rubbish. Are you telling me the behemoth that is Cardiff city has had lower dips in attendances during spells of poor performances on the pitch like every other team in the country!? Also some significant drop offs after recent relegations too Surely not!?
Ah the Swans propensity for the lower leagues. We've been through spells. Just like your lot. Have a look- we've actually spent similar amounts of time in the lower leagues as you.
Plenty of research there for you to do. Don't let the delusion cloud it
You've spent almost twice the amount of time as we have in the bottom two divisions I brought up the rugby song you sing and how you only started singing it after all the egg chasers jumped on board with your success... I don't know how us singing 'Men of Harlech' has any relevance to this? But then again... you're always desperate to be relevant as a club in general. I agreed previously (if you bothered to read) that we both have had times at the lowest points but as I have put up above... some are in there for far longer.

Hmm, I think being the actual Capital of Wales is the reason we say it? Only a select few glorify Sam... most think he was a bloody crook.

Some are in the top division for far longer.
Far more recently too.....
As you learnt yesterday, your crowds were as low at 3.5k in the late 90s. Has your increase in attendances since been due to rugby fans too? Fail to see the logic behind your point. Loads of West Walian rugby fans started watching the Swans? Why?

What footballing relevance does being situated in a capital city actually have then? Are Man City and Liverpool envious of Leyton Orient or Barnet?
If its such a great thing, shouldn't you be winning things? With advantages of a large population and maybe ability to attract players, don't you find it embarrassing that over the last generation you've achieved a lot less thab than the provincial city down the road with 'gypsies on the road' in?
I work and live in England and like everyone else (did) holiday here and there and always end up talking to people from all around the place about football, who I support...etc. When I say Swansea City FC they are always interested in the Swansea story our old leaky vetch field, Toshack, Trundle ,Rodgers, Laudrup, Michu, our Premiership years, our European campaign to name but a few things. Then sometimes because I'm Welsh they may mention cardiff and it's always the same things they say "why did they change their shirts to red" ? and that's it....nothing else No mention of you lot winning a cup when the world was black & white no mention of you being this superior capital of our little country .Scratch the surface a little bit and theres not much there mate.
Enjoy the game on saturday TOM for what it is and what you are a very average mid table championship side

Some are in the top division far longer, yes.
That would be our 17 seasons eclipsing your mere 9! A decade of poor attendances in the 90's doesn't matter on your terms (if we change history to fit the narrative). You should focus on the fact we've only dropped below 20k average twice in the last decade (something you could never dream of considering you barely filled it in your glorious 7 year spell). My point simply being without the glory supporters I think you'd get about 8k? However, we'd probably get between 18k and 20k...

If i based things on recent times and fitted specialised time frames to fit narratives then maybe... But we don't need to do that, fortunately. I think you're getting a tad confused... if there was only 1 club in London then my guess is that would be a super club so it has no relevance to your point as there is numerous clubs...
I'd say we underachieved in the late 80's and 90's but it wasn't really for that long.
However, we definitely fall short based on the time frames you lot work on. Never forget, Swansea Town, formed in 2011.

hahahahah give off you softy. I live in London and nobody's ever mentioned Swansea Town in regards to football. They have talked about the champions league final in Cardiff though and the amount of times they've visited the city. I think the only ones clinging to the 7 year dream are you lot. It's in the past now so it really doesn't matter I guess? Even if the the odd schmuck knew about Swansea Town, they'll soon forget over the next 2 decades. The only thing that keeps you and your town relevant is the South Wales Derby...

Why wouldn't we do that? Old Etonions were successful back in the day. Little relevance to today's football however. Just like your teams achievements. Your more recent ones (and im being generous with recent) dont extend beyond a few relegation seasons in the top level. Far less successful than 'Swansea Town' in a period relevant to us today and thanks for acknowledging our superiority over yourselves The capital point is entirely relevant. This isn't the middle ages, we don't have to deliver heads of cattle to the lord there or anything. But as i say, it must be embarrassing for a city with such a self inflated importance complex to have such a poor football team in relation to that?
Not sure the logic behind the 2011 point again, we have established your crowds were really really bad fairly recently. And not sure where you get your 18k gauge from. Remember know this is a good level for you - this is as good as its got for most of your support so by your When was the last time you had a crowd like that below this division? When you drop down below this level your support is below 10k.

So Cardiffs so great you don't even stay yourself
Ah so you admit that no one you speak to talks about Cardiff City football team. Just other events that take place in the city of Cardiff? That must be embarrassing. Slipping it into the conversation at end "we have a football team too mind"
Haha yea when we were being lauded for our beautiful style of play and being watched the world over with top players like Michu, Bony, Siggurdsson, Williams, regularly upsetting the big boys, winning a trophy, playing and winning in Europe, it was the team a division below us or who we put a nail in their coffin to be relegated that kept us relevant!
The delusion of you scummers never ceases to amuse me

My word, you don't half spout some utter shite haha...
You keep changing History to suit and it's really boring.
Please remember that you have only ever had 9 years in top flight football... you were a flash in the pan and then you were gone again. People's memories fade but the FA Cup will stay in our trophy cabinet and the mickey mouse one will stay in yours
To add also, when i get the chance to come back to Cardiff for good i'd snatch it with both hands but if you can get out of Jackland, I'd advise you do it sharpish...

Haha how can i change history!?
Our recent successes far outweigh yours!
Yes 7 of those seasons within the lifetime and recent, relevant memory of every fan that'll be watching tomorrow!
A 'mickey mouse' cup won in a modern competitive era that if you're truthful your fans would give their right bollock to win! But keep pretending if it makes you feel better and helps you justify your clubs meagre recent (and not so) recent record.

Again you continue to talk about recent success? Are we talking about personal experiences here or are we talking about who's most successful. Changing time frames to suit will forever sum up Swans fans A mickey mouse cup whether we win it or not. As I said previously... having the championship trophy in the cabinet does more for me than the EFL cup

My time frame hasn't changed. You won a fa cup back when no alive remembers, we've been infinitely more successful than Cardiff in the modern era with fantastic very fresh memories. Ha yes I'm sure having that second tier winners trophy provides some solace. Not that it amounts to anything more than what second place achieves - promotion. (doesn't even get a huge day out and celebration at Wembley like we had) Our 'mickey mouse' trophy gave us another Wembley pish up and a European tour. What happened with your championship trophy? 1. A bus parade to celebrate your first go at the top level in nearly 60 years. And your fans and players sang about us 2. Immediate relegation. Oh dear.
