Saints Linked With Move For Ex Player From West Ham Wednesday, 28th Aug 2024 21:38 With just over 48 hours left till the transfer window slams shut, it has been reported that James Ward Prowse's agents are working hard to get him out of West Ham United after just over a year at the club. It was reported a week or so ago that Hammers manager Julen Loptegui has deemed James Ward Prowse surplus to requirements this season and teamtalk.com have revealed that Southampton are interested in bringing their former Captain back to the club. They also reveal that West Ham are prepared to take a loss on their investment last August, but they are looking to start the bidding at £25 million and that could be a stumbling block for Southampton. TEAMtalk go on to say that the Hammers want to sell several players to ensure they are compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR). The London club have spent £123.4m on new signings this summer – making them the eighth-highest spending club in Europe as things stand. They now need to balance the books. Saints seem to have funded their bid for Aaron Ramsdale by the sale of Charly Alcaraz and if they were to sign JWP, they would probably need to get someone else or perhaps two player out of the club to fund the deal. But of they do sign Ramsdale permanently, they they would still have a loan option from a Premier League club and could well do a deal for Ward Prowse that way. Teamtalk say Other Premier League clubs are interested in the midfielder but they understand that he would seriously consider a return to the Saints should the opportunity present itself.
