Joey Barton training with Fleetwood? on 08:37 - Jul 24 by swisscottage | Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. The overriding reason he's not on the Asia Tour is that he can't get a VISA because of his criminal record. The club are just looking to mitigate his ban and whichever club is willing to put up with him, with the maximum number of matches in as short a space of time is likely where he'll go for the start of the season. Don't be surprised if Hughes only names a 24 man squad. |
I think that Hughes would let him go tomorrow
Joey Barton training with Fleetwood? on 09:34 - Jul 24 with 958 views | WestbourneR | Surely Joey's use of the word 'intended', as in the past tense, is massively telling? It must be over for him at Rangers.

I'd wager a Visa couldve been obtained had the club wanted him out there.. Equally, its rather suspicious that he was training at the club but as soon as the first team return he is going away to train with a team he won't be signing for. If we had a role for him after the 12 games he would be training with the first team. Equally if he has a role to play, it seems rather odd that he wasn't given a run out at Woking to earn some match fitness. All indicators point to a big EXIT sign. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Joey Barton training with Fleetwood? on 12:55 - Jul 24 with 855 views | isawqpratwcity | Eh, look, I can't explain this. Is this some rub-ya-nose-in-it punishment that the two parties agreed upon? I don't know. As for the Past Tense "intended". surely that's got to be a typo. My proposition, just after the MC game, was that, at the very worst, he could either sit out on the players list at squillions or be quickly kicked out (at a very high percentage of his contract) in the hope that anybody in the FL would pick him up. So why would he go to an FL2 club now in the hope of being picked up AFTER he'd given up any rights to a pay out in the event of a disciplinary failure? Doesn't make sense.

Didn't say anything about not having a kickabout with Dudley and Tommy Smith though..

By the same token, if he has a role to play, why is he going to a L2 club on the same day the squad will return to training from Asia? Surely training with a PL squad will be better for his fitness than a L2 club. Similarly, taking a part in friendlies for us will surely do more for him than a jog about in a Fleetwood friendly.... With regards the 'I'll be a good boy' clause I'd imagine that he had little alternative from a legal standpoint but to agree to it - as for what's in it for him to move on, well he'd be at absolute best benchwarming here behind Faurlin & Diakite so if he can convince Big Sam to blow his budget on him in January he's laughing | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Joey Barton training with Fleetwood? on 13:25 - Jul 24 with 788 views | WeaverQPR | By training at Fleetwood he is sending out a message that he is prepared to go anywhere,so clubs who may have been put off by wages may now think its possible. As said if he had any chance of still making a go of it at rangers he would of gone on tour or at least trained with them on their return.

Joey Barton training with Fleetwood? on 14:14 - Jul 24 with 749 views | JB1982 | i am clearly in the minority here but i hope Barton does play for the club again. He is the quality of player we need, and we'd have good depth of squad with him, Diakite, Faurlin, Park, Derry, SWP, Park & Tarabbt all able to play in Center Mid. He's got his faults, but he tries hard and is passionate about the club. I'm hoping he is going to fleetwood to get his fitness, and then gets back into the first team squad, and tries to earn a place in the starting 11.
Joey Barton training with Fleetwood? on 14:21 - Jul 24 with 742 views | WestbourneR | JB1982 it's rarely agreed with but I felt Barton put in some key performances at times last season and we wouldn't have stayed up without him. He needs to forget playing long passes though.

Agreed. He is one of those players who's contribution goes unnoticed. He'll make anywhere from 50-200 passess per game (in fact, i remember reading that he had the highest attempted number of passes in the whole PL). He gets the ball, gives a little pass, then moves. He keeps the game flowing. If he curbed the long, hollywood ball attempts, he'd be more successful (but it's the hollywood balls that make you a fan favourite)

why didn't he play for the reserves on Saturday then? If we want him match fit then play in pre season but it's pretty clear he is not wanted, you only had to look at the complete non mention of him in the season ticket magazine to work that out

name one game where his contribution was a key factor in us winning a game. Even early on in the 3-0 at Wolves it was Faurlin and SWP running the game. He did well in the last 6 games, but no better than Shaun Derry and nowhere near what Diakite, Hill, Cissie, Zamora, Mackie and Taarabt were producing. It's not about ability anyway, on ability he'd get on our bench, on temperament and club image he is finished.
Joey Barton training with Fleetwood? on 15:16 - Jul 24 with 668 views | WestbourneR | Well put JB1982 (it's not you is it Joey? That'd make me look silly). He makes a lot of good incisive short passes that get us going. It's not specatular but it's harder to find a player who can do that in the Prem than you'd think. He is also comfortable on the ball. I thought he was immense way against Wolves actually and it's not fair to demand and example of an 'individual performance' when you then name Faurlin AND Swp. I thought he was key against the Swans too for example. But really this is the whole point - he is not an eye catching match winner but he can be a vital and reliable cog in a well oiled team that has shape and pattern play.

I'm with you, I would have no problem with him being allowed back into the squad. He put in some excellent performances in the run of home wins at the end of the season and was always guaranteed to give 100%. He admitted that he was out of form for most of the season and towards the end of the season he seemed to click with the fans. I feel the 12 game ban was excessive. Also If he learnt to feign injury (i.e. Tevez and Johnson) he would not have reacted in the way he did at city as he would have been too busy writhing around on the floor like that pair of d1ckwads.

Massive contribution to the Liverpool win.............by leaving the field. It does kook like he is being frozen out. Only has himself to blame. If his performance level had been higher we would be keeping him close no matter what. I wish the fella all the best for the future though but I don't want to see one of his dodgy corners at LR ever again.

Executive benchwarmer? I'd imagine it would be more cost effective to have 10 heaters installed in the seats than pay Joey £40/50/60/70/80k per week (depending on your belief) to do it.

How does that help? You can't add to the squad after the deadline surely?
Joey Barton training with Fleetwood? on 16:17 - Jul 24 with 545 views | daveB | we can argue about his ability all day but that's not why he is being bombed out, it's his temperament, after this latest ban he will have missed 16games through suspensionfor QPR since signing with us and considering he's been pretty well behaved in most games thats pretty frightening

"Clubs do not have to name a full squad of 25 if they do not have that many contracted players and in this case they can add free agents outside the transfer window. However if they have 25 eligible contracted players, they must be named." So, if he isn't named in August he won't be until January.
