The Lightning Seeds are named after a misheard lyric in the Prince song "Raspberry Beret." In 1967, the Engelbert Humperdinck song, "Please Release Me" prevented the double A-side "Strawberry Fields Forever/ Penny Lane" by The Beatles from getting to number 1. This would have allowed them to have 18 consecutive number 1 singles (11 before and 6 afterwards.)

A mate of mine was ejected from Craven Cottage for throwing sugar cubes at Peter Shilton. In his defence (my mates not Shilts - Pete was playing for Orient at the time so wouldn’t have had much of a defence) he was only 11 and said the big boys made him do it. [Post edited 17 Dec 23:15]

How about a few “not a lot of people know thats” on 23:08 - Dec 17 by colinallcars | Englebert took his name from the classical composer Englebert Humperdinck, who I think was Swiss. |
Humperdinck’s original name was Arnold Dorsey but was known for years as Gerry Dorsey due to his impersonations of Jerry Lewis. Gordon Mills, his close friend and manager came up with the idea for the name change while they were sharing a flat in Bayswater. Mills had form, he’d earlier persuaded a singer he saw in a Welsh working mens club to change his name from Tom Woodward to Tom Jones. Later he would make Ray O’Sullivan change his name to Gilbert O’Sullivan. He managed both of them too. Mills co-wrote ‘It’s not Unusual’ but the only reason Tom Jones recorded it was because Sandie Shaw turned it down. Mills’ daughter was called Clair - the inspiration for the Gilbert O’Sullivan song. The original Engelbert Humperdinck was German - most famous for his opera Hansel & Gretel. I was reading about all this only the other week.
