£230,000 in governments handouts last year 17:29 - Dec 8 with 1105 views | builthjack | A person is worth £55million, and rising by £10million a year. Should he accept the £230,000 handout given to him (It will be a bit more this year) ? When the NHS is needing every penny, why should this guy be subsidised whitest making huge money.

Subsidised due to his Farm? If so and that's what he's entitled to then of course he should get it if that subsidy is for all farms of his type etc. Irrespective of his wealth which has nothing to do with anything in fairness.

I think that people who are making that kind of money should not be receiving government handouts. Our NHS could be completely transformed if these handouts were taken away. Or would we prefer to give these huge handouts to multi millionaires and wait 24 hours at a hospital,to see a doctor. I know which I would choose.

Wonder if you want that to apply €38 billion annual farm subsidies paid out by the EU and the €1.2 billion annual farm subsidies paid out to Irish farmers. Think how many food banks that would set up in the EU.

I don't really care how much a rich person pays in tax, specially not when they only bought a farm to avoid taxes. Anybody who is independently rich shouldn't get subsidies. There are plenty of farmers who are jacking it in because they are broke, their kids are walking away from what is a very hard job because there's no money in it.

They don't make the rules or set the polices, I agree that they don't need it, but its not their fault that they get it.

They could always donate it to those worse off. But they don’t. Greed.

You are simply 100% correct What this monarchy loves is largesse and the lifestyle that goes with it . Money, property, acquisition, is what they are all about Most of them cannot dress themselves so it seems rather unfair. It’s not just the “poor” they insult but all of us

Should be indeed, food banks which have only been a thing since 2000 are a reflection of where the country is today. Disgusting.

Food banks are not a bad thing in my view. If we are a generally a generous religious people then those of faith and others are obliged to share what excesses they have with those that cannot earn sufficiently to eat well. No one in this country needs go without food.. I think it is not the job of the Government to keep everyone fed. Comments like "how can we consider ourselves a civilised country while people are homeless" does not seem reasonable to me at all. Let the independent sector pick up those fallen on hard times. Voluntary work is healthy. I am a litter picker myself. I do about 3 hours a week.
