Saw them in the eighties and they were very good at what they did at the time. Seen some stuff on youtube in recent times and still seem to be able to play.
Never knowingly understood

I know Kirk and Stan quite well... also klnow Chris the drummer, who was the original drummer in The Thompson Twins. Really nice fellas - but I've never got on with them musically to be honest... Or Theatre of Hate...

Around that time was a real creative group around the Harrow area. Musicians, artists and hairdressers. Girlfriends brother designed the eurythmics record covers. Alan St Clair was the guitarist with Spear of Destiny/Theatre of Hate who I had a few chats with in the public bar of The Victory in Pinner. They were all a bit older then my mates and I. Didnt fully comprehend what was going on at the time. Le Bon even honored us with his presence from time to time. Was friends with his brother who invited us to go and see his brothers band very early days. Some reason I couldn’t make it. Shame in some ways.

Also... When Kirk was seeing Boy George they lived in a flat on the White City Estate... I used to see a girl called Lesley who lived with them.... bloody hell... seems a million years ago now....

Kirk was a mate at one time, got to know him when he came up from Devon. I was a fan / follower of The Pack, the little they recorded still revolves around in my head to this day.
Saw Theatre of Hate only a week or two back in Cambridge, and try to see them at least once every year. Still in excellent form.
I’m seeing The Skids (whom without the sadly-departed Stuart Adamson, seems a bit like seeing the Pistols without Steve Jones, I suppose) in Nov and SoD are supporting.
I never really got them back in the day but I recall they were one of those bands who had quite a hardcore, cult following, so it might be amusing to see some of those people 35-40 years on.

Saw them a few times at festivals. Not my thing, but always thought they were good live, and could play and could write a tune. Decent band. Didn't know they were local.

Yeah I really liked them. Growing up in the countryside in South Africa in the 80's, it was virtually impossible to get access to music like this. I had a friend whom I saw once or twice a year who lived near Cape Town and had access to record stores that sold imported LPs and cassettes. He introduced me to all sorts of weird and wonderful music.
I saw Kirk Brandon live in Amsterdam as support act for The Mission in, I think, 2001.

Was tempted by this as loved both bands back in the day...but as a rule, I prefer my memories of bands in their prime to going to see them as 60 somethings with half at most of the original line up.
The Skids without SA ain't the Skids really, is it?
I have friends who religiously go to see SoD on every tour, but thus far I've resisted the temptation to join them.
I've got a playlist for when I'm in the kitchen cooking and their song, Never Take Me Alive, is on there and it's great.
My sister is mates with the singer apparently.
