Just saw today that Bernie Marsden former Whitesnake guitarist died on 23 August. Great guitarist on those early Whitesnake albums alongside Micky Moody. Saw the original Whitesnake in 1980 at the Hammersmith Odeon. Saw Marsden a couple of times as a guest appearance artist in recent years most notably at an FM concert about 10 years ago, where they did a fantastic version of Ain't no love in the heart of the city.

One of the last of those great blues/soul/rock stalwarts who was far more tasteful and melodic than the "shredders for shredding sake" that came later.
Those early Whitesnake albums still stand out for me as so much better than what they became after he and Micky Moody got pushed out. He will indeed be sorely missed.

Saw him at a guitar clinic In Newbury a fair few years ago, what a smashing unassuming bloke he was.
Had a load of tales to tell from the past.
Yesterday (June 21), it was announced that Bernie Marsden was set to sell his iconic “The Beast” ‘59 Gibson Les Paul Standard, which had been valued at around $1.3 million.
Well, there’s been a change of plan: it seems Marsden has had a change of heart, with the former Whitesnake guitarist now saying The Beast is not for sale.
The Beast – one of music’s most iconic Bursts, alongside the Greeny, Clapton's Beano Burst and Page's Number 1 – was part of a wider Bernie Marsden Collection sale that is being hosted by UK vintage gear specialist, ATB Guitars.
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

I never really 'got' Whitesnake. They always seemed like a load of predatory dads having a midlife crisis. Especially when Vai showed up being an absolute w@nk ponce.
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Everything up to Saints & Sinners was pretty darn good (particularly Lovehunter). Everything after that is Coverdale disappearing further and further up his own aris.
'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'
