National league play offs 08:06 - May 3 with 21468 viewsmodelboydave

I imagine I am not the only one monitoring the national league and N/S play offs. Last night I watched St Albans beat Chelmsford 1-0 in the southern section.

In the national league itself borehamwood beat Barnet.
In the southern section Kiddie beat Alferton Town.

Tonight we have Woking v Bromley in the national league
Brockley town v Gloucester city in the north
Worthing v Braintree in the south.

Let’s see who joins us next year.

I think that Chesterfield will get promoted out of the NL and non league Rochdale will have the pleasure of a trip to Meadow Lane

Does the Nation League not own a map or an AtoZ or something?

Boundaries for NLS and NLN will change depending on relegation and promotion into NL. How about NL is rebranded to be National League Premier.

I've answered this before.

There are more than 24 teams at that tier who are further south than Brackley.

If they both get through the playoffs, a Brackley v Oxford City derby would give Brackley their closest away fixture for several years.

My suggestion for Russell Penn to be our next manager is not looking terrible.

I’ve had enough of managers, assistants and players with links to the Midlands.

I think Oxford City is the best option for most of us travel wise.

I'm was aware of how those two leagues are organised, I was being facetious more than anything.

It's just surprising considering how southern skewed the Nation League is, that the NLN and NLS are that southern skewed as well. I expected odd teams from either the NLN or NLS to be below the midlands or above them respectively to make the numbers work, but didn't expect the leagues make up to be that southern skewed.
Figured the club would be more even in their distribution.

Unfortunately the leagues can't dictate who wins promotion or who is relegated. It just seems southern non-league football is stronger than northern.

Maidstone, Torquay and Yeovil have all dropped from the NationAL League this season, putting even more southern teams into the tier below.

Scunthorpe are the only northern team to be relegated.

It does seem crazy the number of southern teams in the leagues, but nothing anyone can do about it.

A St Albans fan was telling me they could easily be in the Northern League if a few more teams changed positions. Meanwhile more results last night.

Woking 1 Bromley 2 in the NL
NLN — Brackley 2 Gloucester City 2 — BT win on pens
NLS — Worthing 2 Braintree Town 1

I was wondering whether an abundance of London clubs in the NLS would be the answer for the southerness of the NLN. I'd imagine with the population density there is would help clubs get to NLS level, (more potential players, more potential fans)

It appears my theory was right https://www.footballgroundmap.com/grounds/england/national-league-south

Not convinced about the fans theory, Barnet v Borehamwoods play off game yesterday attracted only about 2500, & it’s a derby to boot.

Without being facetious, how many does the ground hold though? That could be half the capacity.

Lowestoft were in the northern league -it crippled them financially and they have dropped a few divisions since

Sorry, misread that, thought it had been at Borehamwood and not Barnet.
The Hive is quite a decent new stadium.

It took me seven hours to get back to London on Saturday and that was when the railways weren’t on strike. Our southern away gates are likely to be predominantly southern based Dale fans, I think, next season - given the cost and unreliability of the rail network. I’m particularly looking forward to Ebbsfleet away.

It reminds me, years ago the writers of EGP used to recommend the best away pub, what a great re-innovation that would be!!

I think you might be underestimating the number of fans who will still travel from the Rochdale area, trains or no trains, especially for Saturday fixtures.

I'd be very surprised if the distribution of locals and exiles differed much from this and previous seasons - certainly for the first campaign in the NL.

Of course, form and results will have a part to play, but I think the majority of those local fans who are regular travellers will still be next season.

After that, who knows?

BTW, where's Roding?

I actually think that there may some away games where ticket demand exceeds supply.
I’m not quite sure what the away allocation is at grounds such as Maidenhead or Dorking but it can’t be above a couple of hundred.
It will be interesting to see where the Trust Exiles pick for their away day out as well.

I thought they had an “away day” once a season when Dale were playing in the south of England?
I’m sure it was at Wimbledon a couple of years ago.
