ITV Midweek Sports Special January 1990 The night Coventry’s David Speedie met Sunderland’s Gary Bennett. Commentator John Helm#SAFC#PUSB#Fightpic.twitter.com/L0EOAVdWWI
I still remember the pic in TheSun/NOTW it still makes shudder I havent looked at a picuture of it since as I still remember that one.
I think players had to have counseling after.
They had to empty a bucket of sand over the stain before they could carry on with the game. Djibril Cisse had a very similar injury (and it never did him any harm).

I seem to recall Henrik Larsson also had a similar injury.
I'd like to nominate the West German international keeper Harald Schumacher for his challenge on Patrick Battiston in the 1982 World Cup match against France.
According to Wiki, it left Battiston with two missing teeth, three cracked ribs and damaged vertebrae.
Vinnie Jones being Vinnie Jones on Steve McMahon, but the best thing about this is how McMahon just gets up and carries on.
That was how I was always taught to play football - give it out, take it, but don't let them ever see they've got you. All this squealing and diving is even part of kid's football now, I hate it.
ON the Speedie one I cant quite see what he did that got the other guy so worked up.
I vaguely remember Speedie, but not aware of his exploits like some of the other stuff.
Thatcher could have killed the other guy in that one, and ignoring Buust clip (an accident) that seems the worst in that he could easily have died if that connected the wind pipe.
Ironic I started watching that with the early clips of you know who I cant believe he's not involved in any of them.

If you look at the lower angle, he is only looking at Bennett, not the ball and goes for him with foot and elbow at the same time.
