A full season of football at that level will do him a lot more good than more u23 stuff and the occasional sub appearance for us.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

There follows what I think is a well-considered article about the near future of McBurnie. I think it's well worth your consideration.

The pros and cons of sending Swansea City starlet Oliver McBurnie out on loan

The rising striker has a bright future at Swansea City - but what should happen in the short term?

By Mathew Davies

17:18, 28 MAY 2017

Oliver McBurnie has had quite a year.

The striker, still just 20, made five appearances in the Premier League to complement his starring role for Swansea City's age-grade side this campiagn.

He picked up the under-23 player of the year at the club's end-of-season awards last week and was recently voted Premier League 2 player of the season.

Head coach Paul Clement has liked what he's seen from the youngster and offered words of encouragement as the season progressed.

There was interest in the Scotland Under-21 forward in January, with Bristol Rovers keen on bringing him back to the Memorial Ground on loan, a club he spent time with during the previous campaign.

Now Rovers' rivals Bristol City are reportedly monitoring McBurnie's situation as they seek a replacement for Tammy Abraham, who is returning to parent club Chelsea.

What should Clement do with McBurnie next season? We take a look at the reasons for and against a loan spell away from the Liberty.

Reasons to keep him in SA1

He knows where the goal is

McBurnie scored 23 in all competitions last season and is capable of scoring all types of goals.

He may be slight but the forward has a presence and is more than happy to put himself about a bit. He scored tap-ins, bullet headers and spectacular volleys this season and has shown he is good enough at the top level.

He may be wet behind the ears and he still has lots to learn, but McBurnie has not let anyone down when he's appeared under Clement. A firm fans' favourite.

He would benefit from a full season under Clement's tutorship

The head coach arrived in South Wales and was immediately putting out fires. Clement was parachuted into an almost impossible situation and quite rightly prioritised keeping the club in the Premier League.

Now, with a full pre-season on the horizon and with a blueprint being formulated for the next campaign, McBurnie would no doubt learn a great deal training with experienced pros and full internationals. Who better to mentor McBurnie than World Cup-winning striker Fernando Llorente?

He could get a look-in next season

Speaking of the big Spanish international, it is not a given that Llorente will be lining up for Swansea come August. The 32-year-old has attracted interest in his services, namely from Chelsea, and could yet leave SA1 this summer.

Coupled with this, the future of Borja Baston is far from certain, with Clement admitting it would be a major talking point over the next few months. Bafetimbi Gomis, on loan at Marseille last term, is unlikely to return, meaning there could be an opportunity for McBurnie.

His previous experience of loan spells

McBurnie made an instant impact while on loan with Newport, bagging a 23-minute hat-trick on his debut against Luton in late 2015.

However, he only made three appearances during his short stay in East Wales before being recalled, and then only five when he joined Rovers a couple of months later. McBurnie is of an age (and quality) where, if he is loaned, he needs to play every week.

Also, the experience of players such as Matt Grimes, who spent a frustrating stint at Elland Road last season, could also dissuade Clement from loaning McBurnie out.

Reasons to send him out

Championship football is good breeding ground

Abraham thrived at Bristol City last season, with the 19-year-old bagging 26 goals to help keep Lee Johnson's men in the Championship. Johnson has obviously placed his trust in youth before, and has been rewarded for it.

A spell at Ashton Gate could suit all parties. Regular first-team football in the second tier of English football is the next logical step in McBurnie's progression. Teams mix the rough and ready with a more cultured approach too, which would no doubt mould the striker's all-round game.

He would lead the line

At Championship level he would be the spearhead of the attack. He would learn his trade against seasoned centre-backs in a competitive game environment, something he would not get in training or in Premier League 2 matches. The striker would quickly mature at that level - the regularity of game-time would ensure that.

It would also improve his overall fitness and his sense of responsibility - playing 90 minutes twice a week is far more effective than 10 minutes here or there in the Premier League every fortnight.

At least one striker is incoming at the Liberty this summer

Even if Llorente and Borja stay put this summer, it is more than likely that Clement will make an attacking addition. Swansea were overly reliant on the former Juventus man and Gylfi Sigurdsson last season, meaning another striker is on the wanted list to help chip in with goals. The rumour mill has already started on that .

McBurnie has all the ingredients to be a top-level striker, but will Clement want to burden him at such a young age?

Overall

Oliver McBurnie has a bright future ahead of him

As previously stated, the Leeds-born player has what it takes to succeed with Swansea and will no doubt go on to have a bright future in SA1. That's the long-term forecast. In the short term, however, there are convincing arguments for a temporary move away from the Liberty.

McBurnie made a name for himself last summer while on Swansea's pre-season tour of the US, scoring a sublime long-range goal. You fancy this season's trip to the States could be just as pivotal for him.

Whatever happens, Swansea have a real gem on their hands.

Out of 8 games loaned out to Newport and Bristol Rovers, he scored 3 goals - all in a single game.

I'd not be convinced he would be a Champ striker as yet - maybe another year in League One?

I'd loan him out for the 1st half of the season, if he does the business we know we have an option for the 2nd half of season

I think at this stage of his career he's more likely to succeed at L1 level. By "succeed" I suppose I really mean "benefit from the experience and play regularly".

I like the guy, his style, his preparedness to muck in and lead the line, but I saw more in Alex Samuel (ok, different style of player) and since leaving Swans he's only wound up in L1.
