A nice topic We have a bird box and blue tits use it Do the same ones return or is it their chums It's rather heart warming I admit It's a good idea to have a decent bird bath and keep it clean
Our problem is mainly shite hawks ( seagulls) and the clowns who leave food for them Almost as bad as those who leave half chickens out for the foxes , who actually tool my granddaughters shoes from the doorstep and destroyed them
One of life's little pleasures is when I walk the dogs firdy thing in the local park and the trees are full of birdsong.
We've had a birdbox for 3 years now but no birds as I never got around to putting it up. We had a birdbath too but local cats kept coming around. We also have insect houses and a couple specially for bees. We had some ground dwelling bees too.

Nature is fantastic.
I live on the east side of town but a stones throw from the he countryside so fortunate to see a fair variety of birds , in my garden not so many now certainly the sparrow population has fallen of the cliff with numbers really low despite my efforts .I have a large conifer t have a pair of magpies who nest there every year and boss the other species , a robin visits quite often along with a thrush and blackbird whose singing this time of the year is wonderful.A pair of wagtails occasionally visit and red kites hover above .Not a bad selection but I'm sure we could do more to help the bird population.

Put a bird seed feeder out and fill it with sunflower seeds and you should get a fair variety of birds. I get regular Goldfinches, Blue Tits, Coal Tits, Long Tailed Tits, Greenfinches, sparrows, Robins, the occasional Bullfinch and Blackbirds.
Cats are the main problem, there are loads in the neighbourhood.

Cats don't kill songbirds, ask any cat lover or wildlife expert Chris Packham.
I have a little Robin who comes within 2 foot of me early every morning. A cheeky little bugger.
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Get it put up ASAP garden birds are now looking for nests and places to nest don't put it in direct sunlight and make sure the hole in the box is small as predators will kill the chick's you can buy smaller rings to go around the hole. At the end of the nesting season give it a good clean out but not with any chemicals
I think Packham was trying to be serious when he said it, and I know many cat owners that swear that their cats only kill sickly birds, if any.
I need to tell my neighbours cat that because her little bugger has killed several. My sister had a cat that used to climb a tree in their garden and wait for birds, when they flew off it used to jump and try to take them in mid air, it was a crazy dude to be fair. It left a dead bird in their bed one day. My bro in law didn't notice it, got into bed and SQUISH, blood and guts on him and the bed.
