Don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned before, but that’s a right sitter Mitchell misses when we are 1-0 up. Fantastic bit of play and he somehow gets it over the bar, if that goes in it’s a totally different game.

Unfortunately he does have form for missing sitters.

Its a decent start

Don't think we will see a Cfield type team run away with it this season

Still feel we will end up mid table

Couple of mins in so far and it’s refreshing to hear an immediate acknowledgment of how we could have been better for the goals.

Then there’s a referee moan (maybe valid for those who watched), but to follow it up with ‘xG’ talk? Ugh. Modern football is rubbish.

Sassi sounds like he could be out on Tuesday so let’s hope Ferguson can recover from illness and solidify his place for a while.

We’d have less selection “turbulence” to worry about recently if those selections were more consistent, injuries permitting. Still, apart from the constant referring back to ref decisions despite saying he didn’t want to, that was actually one of the better interviews so far.

I had no idea what "xG" referred too until I Googled it! I doubt that George Best, Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles, Van Basten, Frank Worthington, Ronaldino, Cruyff , JJ Akocha or Paddy McCourt would have had any idea either, and even less cared.
People pay to be excited and entertained, not to see an exercise in statistical analysis. Early days but I have a fear that, as with last season, McNulty will not get the best out of the squad he has assembled.

And yet all these managers and new experts on Twitter etc fail to discuss the xG against information when passing unnecessarily around their own penalty areas (see the other thread). They all think they’re cleverer than the normal fan.

If anything, in a lot of cases, the opposite is true.

I think the squad we have are good enough for the playoffs and if we are sort out the mistakes you never know what may happen, but it will be a tight league this year.

Watching the highlights, the first goal we conceded was poor, why did the defender not just clear it,instead of juggling on his thigh and heading it weakly a few yards, straight to McCallum and it was the same with the penalty, while did Robson try passing it out to a defender surrounded by Eastleigh players, who was forced to commit a foul, instead of clearing straight down field in the first place. The second and third goals were down to poor defenders, the long throw, no one seemed to jumped to challenge for the ball. All mistakes that could be avoided.

We're still making the same mistakes we have been for years and a manager still weirdly getting bogged down with coaching manuals, analysis, possession stats and stupid buzz words.

We've a squad very much capable of staying in and around the playoffs if not higher, I'm not convinced the manager is quite as capable.

Funnily enough McNulty doesn't once mention poor defending or bad decision making - 80% of his interview is about the referee.

Well we have reached the vaunted 10 game mark, by which stage it’s said you know where you stand.
So we are undoubtedly better than last season with a better squad, and more strings to our bow in every sense. After8 games the defence looks great, now well let’s lets say there is work to do and confidence to restore. The midfield options are as good as any in this league imo. Mitchell and Rodney are doing what’s expected of them, and in Mitchell’s case probably more than most fans expected. If Hendo is not being relied on that is a positive sign for me. His time will come at some stage and he knows how to take them.
In the main we are playing a more agreeable and rewarding style of play. Many of the new signings have made a positive difference.
This remains a difficult league to assess but I now believe the play offs are what we are capable of. Their will be strange losses and unexpected wins along the way but the dream is very much still alive for me. UTD

I was in favour of releasing EEL in the summer. I will hold my hands up and say wrong call based on his start to this season, we are missing him enormously just now. Sassi isn't the answer. If the manager doesn't have faith in Ferguson, then we need to recruit a dependable, experienced centre half ASAP or else the season will be over by the time EEL gets back.

This is a classic case of a players stock rising when he is no longer in the team. EEL is the best of a poor trio of central defenders but to progress we need better quality. His performance at York last month was poor, he cost us the game with his defending. We have needed a good experienced centre half for ages but McNulty can't see past EEL. There's a place for him in the squad but really at his age and with his limitations when it comes to distributing the ball we shouldn't be relying on him. Nial Maher was available a couple of months ago having left Halifax, he's the type of player who we should have recruited.

Awful defending for every goal conceded today.

I missed the match because I was stuck in rural Pennsylvania, surrounded by nothing but trees—no WiFi, just woods. But I did catch the short highlights, and honestly, it felt like watching a comedy special. I laughed so much I nearly fell off my chair. Planning to watch the full game tomorrow out of sheer curiosity.

As to the ref, can't comment aside from blaming the ref is like religion - a convenient excuse.

So we are on 17 points after 10 games, last season we were on 15 at the same point, so a slight improvement , we are in a play-off position, so on target.... And interestiingly we have played more games against top half clubs than many but taken fewer points from them than some of our contemporaries which I guess is a minus point at this stage as is losing two games on the trot.

It is important that we get at least a point at Hartlepools, to prevent two consecutive losses becoming three and to help Saturdays attendance to keep the faith that we are heading in the right direction. A win would be optimal and help even more.
