Reports - Carroll Close To Swansea Return on 12:18 - Jan 8 with 1613 views | TheResurrection | He's the closest player I can think of to Leon or Joey, except he's so much better than Leon in advanced areas and he's growing and learning all the while. He's also a very genuine footballer who may not be the hardest tackler or biggest but he goes from start to finish and wants to improve. He's also very young, still, and his best years are ahead of him if he can find a place to play well most weeks. He'll keep us moving in the midfield area and keep the ball flowing for us. His passing is superb and crisp and we will be able to pull teams around quicker with the ball on the go more for us. He's creative as well as being that continuity player we've missed so much. If we get him it would be something of a coup in our predicament and believe it or not, he's exactly what we need. But he's not ALL we need.

We will, although I hope not.

I don't expect people to agree with everything I say... I just expect them to apologise when they then see it for themselves later down the line ;-)

Reports - Carroll Close To Swansea Return on 11:58 - Jan 8 by Loyal | Clement stated he wants to sign better than we have. So is Carroll better than Fulton ? Ki ? Fer ? Gylfi ? I'm not so sure. |
Well he's certainly not better than Gylfi. But if PC thinks he's better than Fulton, Fer or Ki then that's okay in my book. And, of course we don't know if someone has enquired about Ki, Fer, maybe Cork. So perhaps he's maybe thinking about Carroll and a DM. My main point here is that we don't know what's going on so getting the proverbial knickers in a twist seems a bit pointless.

Reports - Carroll Close To Swansea Return on 11:50 - Jan 8 by Murph75 | People aren't purely dismissing him because of his stature etc. They're dismissing the transfer purely based on the fact that he offers us nothing different. That's the point you've missed. |
People have done exactly that on the first page of this thread, and others when potential signings are being discussed. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Reports - Carroll Close To Swansea Return on 12:38 - Jan 8 with 1506 views | FearOfAJackPlanet | TIdy little player, but not sure he's worth the outlay right now when other parts of the pitch require more urgent strengthening. I don't think he's much better than Ki's performance against Palace. If Ki can keep that up, we don't need Carroll (big 'If' though...) As far as I'm concerned, the priority is 2 new first choice full-backs (left and right) and 2 new first choice wide attackers/wingers. The entire wide-game of our first team is abysmal and needs a complete overhaul. If and when that happens, I think it we'll see a vast improvement in our central midfielders who'll have better options when on the ball rather than the almost total void at present. Naughton and Kingsley are decent, but they should be back-up to two new starters. Same goes for Routs, Dyer, Barrow, Montero et al. Get a premier league standard wide game in our side and the rest will improve - including the strikers we keep buying and discarding every 5 minutes in the hope that treating the symptoms will cure the underlying illness. Until we do that, signings like Carroll are just addressing the wrong areas. If he's cheap and wants to come, yeah, why not, but it won't make much difference to our fortunes.

If he has improved over the last 2 years then maybe. If he hasn't then leave him where he is. Can't say I have seen much of him recently so who knows.

Reports - Carroll Close To Swansea Return on 11:38 - Jan 8 by TheResurrection | If we got Carroll I would doubt he'd be the only addition in midfield. But he'd be an upgrade on Ki for one so maybe he is going to China? |
I wouldn't be disappointed to see Ki move on, it seems that Carroll isn't overly keen on coming here so that's one issue, if we did bring in a DM of the ilk of what others and myself would like to see come in, he might be ok, he'd probably quicker in thought and deed than Jack, but I'm not overly fussed on him to be honest, we needed Joe back in the summer, but didn't get him Carrol is similar but not in the same class for me plus the DM would need to be bigger to cope with the aerial threats.

I think most agree that has good a servant that Leon has been is time is almost up as a Premier League player, is Carroll the player to take over his role though?

We've just brought in 2 coaches from spurs, I'm pretty sure they will have had some input in the decision. And they will know better than most
Reports - Carroll Close To Swansea Return on 12:47 - Jan 8 with 1466 views | PURe_Evil | Carroll has come on leaps and bounds since he was here last and is probably better than what we have at the moment. I don't think he'll come here though.

Reports - Carroll Close To Swansea Return on 12:00 - Jan 8 by Joe_bradshaw | The trouble is, what we need and what we can realistically get are very different things. Are we prepared to pay for what we need and if we are do we have the expertise to recognise and acquire it? Look at Newcastle a year ago. How we laughed when they threw money at it and failed. A very big club who, in order to attract players had to pay over the odds, offer ridiculous wages with no relegation clauses and agree to release clauses. Townsend used his release clause whilst Shelvey was happy to continue to pick up this 80K a week in a league in which he looks a decent player. We have to hope that Clement has a say in recruitment and can blend an average group into a team that's greater than the sum of its parts. It's a massive ask. |
Good post there Joe, none of us know how any of it will turnout, its just personal opinions by us fans, I'm sure if Clement sees him as an improvement then he probably is. At the end of the day we need reinforcements/new faces to come in and freshen the squad up and you're right we aren't gonna spend 30 million or more on 3 players, its just not gonna happen, so we've just got to make the best of it, for now at least.

You don't think someone should think about major life altering decisions like this? Bizarre.

Not necessarily Leon although he's niggly enough to put some fires out but more where De Guz used to play, where Ki plays now. We cannot wait any longer for Ki by the way. Someone going on about the Palace game needs their head read. A flat track bully maybe his best compliment but one or two decent performance from ten isn't cutting it. Having said that I think Carroll could play anywhere in midfield and would be ideal in his versatility. Also, the way Siggy has been playing I'd even try him there.

The problem is I do think he would be our only midfield signing . Neat and tidy and in a perfect world would be a good acquisition but I don't think he's what we need in a relegation scrap. I can't see Jenkins getting the better of Levy so unless the Chinese pay over the odds for Ki and we trouser a few million on the deals I think we're barking up the wrong tree.
