All down to the lawyers now...... 10:38 - May 13 with 5126 views | QPR1882 | This is set to go on for months and months........ Queens Park Rangers have challenged the legality of the Football League's financial fair play (FFP) rules. With the Football League they have issued a joint statement to confirm that legal proceedings are under way. An arbitration panel has been set up, thought to be composed of three QCs. Neither party will reveal when the panel will deliver its findings. Should the panel find in favour of the Football League, QPR are expected to be charged with breaking the spending rules and will be exposed to fines close to £60m. The club would then engage in a second battle and seek to challenge the accounting principles of the FFP regulations. The club is confident that it wlll be able to reach a settlement on a lower sum. The Football League has played down suggestions that it could send QPR to the National League (formerly the Football Conference). Despite receiving £24m in parachute payments next season, the club's income is likely to fall by £50m after relegation.

I hope the club has been sensible and hired 'Lawyers 4 U' on a no win no fee basis.

Depends just how much red tape our lawyers have in their briefcase against what figure we are prepared to settle at on the length of any trial.

Exactamundo. We're starting in the Championship in August, and we'll filibuster it until the opening day of the season if we have to...

Certainly puts us on the back foot.

Could they place us under a transfer embargo if we drag it on and on? With 12(ish) set to be released/return to parent clubs we'll have nobody left!

On what grounds, that we are contesting the FL decision. I don't think even the FL would be foolish enough to go down that route. [Post edited 13 May 2015 15:03]

All down to the lawyers now...... on 15:14 - May 13 with 3443 views | bosh67 | The law is a lottery. Lawyers will say there is definitely a case to fight, lose it and then say there was always a risk. Sadly that is the general rule, however good they supposedly are. A lot rides on this case. If the Football League loses the case then there is a big chance that the whole FFP enforcement of regulations will crumble for them. So they won't want to lose face. However, I think we do have a legitimate case here but we won't be allowed to 'win it'. I think it will end in a compromised fine of less than half, perhaps £25m and that will be it. On the other hand if we are allowed to win it, then The Football League could be on the end of a huge counter claim for raising a false case against us.

I do not see how they can send us to the conference before the issue is resolved, let alone risk it. It they lost, the league would be subject to a law suit they simply could not afford They would have been far more sensible to deduct points than talk money with owners who can afford a legal fight , and possibly a transfer embargo

Which is why it might come as a relief to the FL if the arbitration lot say something on the lines of it's not appropriate to charge QPR at the moment because the money was spent on contracts made before the FFP came into force etc. However the rules have now been clarified and anyone exceeding the limits in the future will be dealt with most severely. To take us to court and lose would be a catastrophe for the FL and the FFP rules. I bet they're praying for a sidestep shuffle.

"A lot rides on this case. If the Football League loses the case then there is a big chance that the whole FFP enforcement of regulations will crumble for them. So they won't want to lose face. " I think this is the bottom line and the FL will not want to push us into a corner so will give us a get out that will suite both parties. However if FFP is not challenged at some point I can see a Premier League 1 & 2 being set up soon with no relegation to the FL from PL2.

This sounds about right. In the FL's favour is that they're effectively in a monopoly situation and can make up their own rules, to challenge this through the EU would take years, win or lose. In QPR's favour is that we have very wealthy owners who can afford to fight this case for a long time if need be. Football is a time sensitive game in every sense. A swift resolution is in everyone's best interest.

They really cannot make up their own rules, if that were the case there would be little point in fighting them [Post edited 13 May 2015 20:33]
