Like I've said many times on 17:42 - Jan 22 by FieryJack | Meanwhile, Lisa, back in the real world... It would be great if everyone could wear their colours when and where ever they pleased, but sadly it will always be a risk. Also, since the hooliganism of yesteryear seems to have died down to a considerable extent I think there is a younger generation of fans who are less wary of the dangers. What happened to that lad was vile, and hopefully he won't be put off the game for life. He will probably loathe Swansea for life, though. I'll be going to Blackburn this saturday, and have to say that after 40 years of going to games and seeing some sickening things, there is no way I'd ever wear colours - or if I did they'd be well covered once outside the ground. Always be ultra cautious. |
Yes exactly 'FieryJack' I agree on all counts.

maybe I'm just to used to living somewhere where it's 2015 then rather than 1980. In London every weekend, the tube is full of thousands and thousands of supporters of teams that hate each other (Spurs / Chelsea, QPR / Chelsea, Millwall / West Ham), all wearing different shirts / scarves etc without the slightest hint of 'aggro'. And believe me when I say that a lot of London makes the very worst parts of Swansea look like Beverly Hills. It may be the case that people should be careful, but to in anyway attempt to start talking about 'deeds that Chelsea have done in the past' being to blame is a disgrace. It's not like they were walking around giving it large, they were walking to the train station for God's sake.

Yeah i think I'm with you on this one Lisa. I want to live in a country where your personal safety isn't threatened because you walk down a street with the wrong colour scarf on. There is no justification for hooliganism and violence at football at the end of the day.

Like I've said many times on 17:17 - Jan 22 by trampie | Terrible what has happened and I know this isn't the 70's and 80's no more and the young lad apparently had an older brother with him, i'm in no way blaming the victims but walking to the train station wearing colours ???, if that is the case that is very ill advised and Chelsea fans as well !!! [who would possibly be more of a target due to past deads by Chelsea fans in years gone by]. |
If we accept this and allow it to happen it will continue to happen You say you are not blaming the victims but then go on to do just that Of course common sense is required in out of the way areas especially in the dark. However it was still light after the game. And anyway in a civilised society none of this should be necessary.
Like I've said many times on 18:15 - Jan 22 with 1996 views | Starsky | I agree with Lisa's sentiments but if I knew that 2 of my kids were walking through the streets wearing club colours after an away game, I'd be horrified and extremely worried for their safety. This doesn't detract for my disdain for the scum that attacked them. Oh and by the way... Somebody suggested the trust or the club made a gesture to the kids that were attacked... How about us lot on this forum do something ourselves? Any ideas?

Not at all, I would be telling any youngsters I knew going an away game under their own steam not to wear colours.

I agree, nothing wrong with Lisa's sentiments but is she living in the real world ?, I certainly would not advise walking through the streets wearing club colours after an away game.

To be honest one of my favourite things especially with away games is having a chat with the opposition fans both walking to the game and after the game. Most will take you on be really friendly and many seem quite knowledgeable about us. Of course they always seem more enthusiastic when they have won. I would be a tad disappointed if one punched me in the face and I always wear my Swansea scarf (leave the kit to the players) We can only apologise for the idiots who did this to these lads

Nice idea but it is the club that could lay something special on for them like meeting the players. Perhaps the Trust Director could table a motion (no toilet jokes please)

Agree with your comments, and nothing excuses what they did. Things have improved over the years but let's not pretend things don't still happen. It is down to wrong place wrong time. Hope the lad can get over it and not sour his feelings about the Swans
Like I've said many times on 18:52 - Jan 22 with 1882 views | Jackfath | Absolutely embarrassing for any decent member of Swansea, whether a fan of the football club or not. Sadly we still have elements in our midst who thrive on intimidation and bullying. Happens in all walks of life, always has, always will.

Like I've said many times on 19:10 - Jan 22 with 1845 views | jack247 | This has to be the most disgusting and upsetting thing I have read on here. I have no idea why I should feel embarrassed over the actions of some absolute scum ive never met, but somehow I do. The poor boy has a mental disability, he was out on an away trip with his big brother and he had just watched his team put on a football masterclass, he probably felt 10 foot tall walking back to the station and then this. There was a suggestion earlier that the Swans should do something for him and his family, although it is clearly nothing to do with the club or its decent supporters, a couple of hospitality tickets next season by way of apology would cost next to nothing and hopefully give the kid a more realistic impression of the people of South Wales.
Like I've said many times on 19:14 - Jan 22 with 1839 views | ScoobyDoo | I think every team has their bad element and we know more than most how something like what happened Saturday leaves a bad taste and the genuine supporters get tarred with the same brush. Lets hope they catch the perpetrators and they get punished accordingly.

With respect, why should the club do something about something that was caused by 'fans'? I'm tired, had a hard day and can't think outside the box at the moment.

The club doesn't have to be at fault to do something positive.

If the club did something for them, it's still not going to show something positive from the fans though. If it's something by the fans then it would be more appropriate [Post edited 22 Jan 2015 20:31]

Like I've said many times on 22:19 - Jan 22 with 1591 views | Chief | something about this story doesn't ring true to me. Was anyone on here around the Commercial after the game? Why were these fans up near the Commercial after the game? certainly not the most direct route to the station. strange to stray away from all the other Chelsea fans walking down thee Hafod. I also find it strange that there would the imbeciles looking for trouble up there, surely there'd be more likely to be hanging about the smiths, the Villiers, the white swan etc? Strange and very sad story

Like I've said many times on 23:45 - Jan 22 with 1510 views | perchrockjack | Last away game I walked down Walton breck road to the Thomas frost pub .in swans beanie and scarf was on me own , but talked to some reds fans en route to pub where I met up with some chums. No hassle whatever. There is a way of avoiding aggro many times by conversation and inter action. It's how you do it.

Let's not turn this into a Swansea v other club. It can happen anywhere, I've walked and talked with other teams supporters after an away game (and seen it done at the Liberty). I also still see 'fans' hanging around as if they are looking for opposition fans. It can all be down to a couple of minutes either way. The large problems of years ago have gone but a quick punch and back into the crowd is still around today
