My assumption, possibly incorrect, was that the boards themselves would have to be tested for safety prior to being put on the market.
Then again, I suppose it's more to do with what's shown on them, in which case the Club are, to some degree, in control - i.e. they *could* refuse to show certain adverts if they were considered to be a risk. |

Ideally I would rather these boards hadn't been put there and of course I hope everyone else is dealt with as fairly.
Unfortunately we do not have a union otherwise perhaps in the interests of fairness we'd all be sharing our ST's so that all who want to see games get a turn>

Emailed club on Monday.
After reading an article on the official website claiming that the new digital signage was going to be an 'enhancement to the matchday experience’ I was looking forward to the first home game of the season. Sitting in the East Stand A??? I was devastated to see that within two meters of my seat there were fast moving and very bright flashing LEDs which were obstructing and distracting my view. I would like to know where the person who wrote this article sits during a game and invite them to try my seat for a game and see if it changes their opinion. As the season unfolds and the nights get darker I can only image how much worse this problem will become.
You may want to advise companies that are paying to use this service that I and the people sitting around me will actively avoid using their company.
Please register this email as an official compliant regarding the new LED signage that is now facing fans who have paid to watch the match and are having their view distracted by fast flashing LEDs.
I would like the advertising to stop during the game or at the very least for the signage to be dimmed and have static images displayed.
The new slogan being adopted used by the club is "Not just another football club” please think about this statement and put your fans ahead of advertising that is not wanted in this manner.
Please would you could forward me a copy of your complaints procedure so I can have evidence on how my complaint is going to be handled.

Thank you for your e-mail & bringing to our attention your concerns. I wish to assure you that Swansea City FC are a club committed to its supporters & take very seriously every comment or complaint, especially where fan welfare is concerned.
We have been speaking with other Premier League clubs where crowd facing LED is used & over the coming weeks, following your feedback, we will be looking at the possibilities of both dimming the LED as well as producing a more static image.
Should you find the LED still to be obtrusive in a few weeks’ time, once we have made the necessary adjustments, then we would be happy to look into relocating you. In the meantime however, we wish to thank you for your patience & co-operation.

Thanks for your reply and looking into my complaint.
I hope the club will be leading on this and put their supporters ahead of the advertising revenue, after all we have paid for our season tickets long before any new advertising revenue was generated.
I am interesting to know what % revenue generated from season ticket sales is compaired to the revenue gained from the new crowd facing signage. Could some of this revenue be used to compensate supporters for having to put up with the distraction.
Are the companies that advertise on the crowd facing LEDs aware the very supporters they are trying to engage with are being alienating and will result in a negative impact on their revenue.
Would be a good PR exercise if someone from the club comes over to the East stand on Saturday and engages with its supporters to asses the feelings on this matter.
I would be delighted to meet and discuss the matter if someone is available at the weekend.

I agree that nobody actively wants to see a flashing advert during the game (other than the advertiser themselves, perhaps) but I don't agree that, currently, these boards are anything other than an attempt by the Club to generate additional revenue.
What will be interesting is how the Club react to the high levels of negative feedback they are generating. We don't know how much the boards are bringing in but if, as has been suggested, its as little as £10k per season there would be no reason for the Club to retain them if the same outcry continues after all adjustments and alterations have been made.
However, if they are bringing in closer to £1m per season, that makes it a different argument. |  | | |

Was in Row D for Rotherham game. The images didn't bother me at all, and although I am aware that that probably puts me in the minority, I believe that this issue can be resolved to suit all parties.
What's more annoying to me, (again wasn't effected personally) was the fact that the size of the boards restricts the views of the spectators in the first 2(?) rows. You could argue that big screens may add to some supporters experience, (especially once the content is fine tuned more to the fans expectations, team line ups, bookings, subs e.t.c.), but how can anyone claim that flashing adverts during the game benefit the fan!? This is purely a cash gaining exercise for the club at the expense of the paying supporter.
I don't usually bitch about my beloved Swans, but this all seems like a huge oversight by those in charge. Time to see if they've got the balls to do the right thing. [Post edited 30 Aug 2014 11:23]
