Guardian interview with Levien and Kaplan on 19:44 - Feb 9 by shandyjack | i'm talking more in terms of the glaring gaps in the squad, going into the season with only Rangel as a back up FB was crazy, luckily Roberts has stepped up now. Mesa was a disaster, we needed a creative player in and Sanches was too young and inexperienced to rely upon to provide this. But i was always of the belief the squad overall was better than PC was getting out of them. |
Yes there is definitely areas we could improve on, I'll agree there. In another world I wonder how disastrous Mesa would've been? I'm guessing he was already on the way back to Spain by the time Carlos came in.

Guardian interview with Levien and Kaplan on 19:52 - Feb 9 by BlasterJack | A huge profit at a time when player prices have been rising at an extraordinary rate. They went for profit because of the market, nothing more. Our squad value is high because of the stupid prices being paid for bang average players, nothing to do with smart purchases. |
The market is the market mate. Prices are relative. It's only Siggy you could describe as extraordinary.

The market is the market, except in the case of the Siggy, where a) it is not; and; b) there was a secret plot to over-report the fee to make you look daft.

Agreed, under BR or ML I would assume mesa would fit right in, but it’s a strange signing when PC didn’t play the old Swansea way and would struggle to fit Mesa into his non flexable style

mmm, we could have signed Mawson for a fraction of what he cost us 12 months earlier, when he left Brentford for Barnsley! Leadbeatter had already recommended him.

Guardian interview with Levien and Kaplan on 19:23 - Feb 9 by Shaky | What is in your opinion a credible comprehensive source for transfer market data? Anyone? |
you can take off about £10m of the Siggy transfer as we had to pay Spurs a sell-on fee. Also need to factor in the the pay offs to players like Tabanou.

So what like? We had a bargain just after he had made a start in the Championship. You've banged this drum before in some weird kind of way to actually knock the signing of Alfie Mawson. A special kind of facked up sad, that is. Well done.

Agreed. Of all the signings we’ve made, Mawson is not the one to criticise.

Instead, we signed him when we needed him - just a few days after Ash went to Everton. And the vast majority of our supporters immediately freaked out that this was our idea for a replacement.

Now that would be a thread or two to revisit and pour over, as would the Llorente signings one's would be. You can never please a Swans fan.

Indeed it would. Alfie Mawson by Landore_Jack 26 Aug 2016 18:07Fee agreed with Barnsley

Because he wasn't meant to be Ash's replacement. They thoguth Amat would step up. The fact remains, they could have saved several million by signing him when he was identifed by the head of recruitment, but didnt. We criticise for wasting money, and not identifying 'bargain' players when we used to. Then we have a Chairman ignoring advice. Yes, we will make a huge profit, eventually on Mawson. But that's not the fecking point, is it! It is about a flawed recruitment, run by the Chairman/DOF. Another example - one of many for the Academy and U23s is the Academy - is the Boston kid we just signed. This will block some very good U18s from moving up, and then those below them too.

To be fair, the further I dug into the thread, there wasn't the negativity I had recalled. There was plenty of it on twitter, but the "vast majority" freaking out like I described earlier today wasn't really accurate.
