These two haven't the money - they have to be a front for someone else. There is a hell of a difference between being what most would describe as 'rich' or 'millionaires' and having over £100m to put into a football club which by its very nature is something of a risk. We, by which I mean the fans rather than internal to the club, don't know who's actually buying the club as yet.

If Keith Harris is involved, Lisa, that's definitely the case.

Yes - I remember him very clearly from last time round ! Nothing I've seen about these two suggests that they have anything like enough money. Looking at their associates, it's possible that the money is the guy who owns Inter (and DC United) or it may be someone else entirely, but it's not them.

Assuming it's the Keith Harris I'm thinking of, brokered the Abramovich/Chelsea, Lerner/Villa deals amongst others. Was non-executive director for us, paid a salary to find investment leads. Around the time of the Hammam transition to Ridsdale, I seem to recall. Can't recall any investment leads being found, Tan coming in had zero to do with him.

It seems like they'll be in the day to day observation role.. Kaplan is an Asset Manager head.. It must be someone big, because Kaplan is the best in the business apparently.

Trust Statement regarding potential takeover of Swansea City Football Club on 17:19 - Apr 15 with 1997 views | blueytheblue | Reading those comments from Ryan Keefer it's pretty clear he just doesn't get the situation or European football outside the franchised MLS bubble. "They (DC United) were losing £5m annually. With the stadium being built they expect that annual loss to essentially go away overnight." So DC United expect to make 5m a season straight away; won one game this season, clearly that'll help attendances flock. You'd have to ask how they were losing 5m a season; granted TV income nowhere near the Prem levels but you cut your cloth accordingly. “There is almost a silence amongst the ownership and the only visible voices on the team are a team spokesman and the coach and occasionally the technical director. “It’s a little bit of exasperation at times. They know what type of restriction the team is in in terms of finances. The lack of communication over why is frustrating.” So expect the strong silent types. Yeah, that'll go down well given your model was based upon community involvement ( yes, that's split now money has talked, but even so... ) About the Trust... “I don’t think it’s as much of a concern because of their position on the board and ownership stake in the team they have. “I don’t think it’s going to wind up being a single group ownership or anything. They will work in good faith but I think there will be a communication gap for want of a better phrase with the ownership they need to accept.” So basically, this group will have 60% of shares, rumoured to dominate voting rights but it's ok. It'll not be a single group, it'll be a plural democracy. Deluded. re Expenditure “The theme seems to be we are going to spend smart as we get closer to the stadium. We are not going to go out and write a blank cheque for Harry Kane or anything like that." What a dumb comment to make. Spending smart? Weak squad, poor results this season. Can get away with that in a league where you'll not be relegated. “Even when the stadium does open I don’t think they will be an LA Galaxy or New York Red Bulls. They don’t have a large body that’s funding the team." So if there's no really investment into a franchised side, there will magically be investment into Swansea because? “They have lost a little bit more money as efforts towards the stadium ramp up. The edict in a couple of places is to focus exclusively on the stadium." Which if replicated at Swansea means you'll have a nice stadium, with a weakened squad in the Championship. “Academy financing is being scaled back so they tend to focus on the stadium. They are putting their eggs in that basket.” So stadium at all costs - even the future of the squad. Wow.

Misunderstood? No. Misrepresented in the media and on certain websites, yes. Lied to by "prominent fans" about a number of issues? Sure. Had too much faith in managers, backing them far too much? Definitely. Let's be blunt, anti-Tan sentiment was stoked up by those Hammamistas from the manipulating of the bushy eyebrowed one. The approach used now - trimming squad to settle on a core, lowering wages in the process is entirely the model that should have been used in the first instance. Whereas Lerner just lost interest at Villa, see the result. [Post edited 15 Apr 2016 17:35]

Lisa, i have read somewhere on a USA site regarding the sale that the '£100m' would be no problem for Stephen Kaplan. Whether they mean it's no problem for him too raise that sort of money or to borrow it I wouldn't know. Either way, it cannot be discounted that these guys are acting alone if they are looking for quick profit.

They could borrow the money to buy the shares, and get the club to servicie the debt, isn't that, or something like it, that the Glaziers did at Man Utd ?

Difference being that Man Utd have massive income streams that can service the debt.

These two are always minority partners though in every deal with someone with a lot of money behind them. Same with various failed bids in the U.S. for sports teams. I assume they are hugely well connected, but doubt it's their money. £100m is a lot by anyone's standards.

Yes. A leveraged buy out only works when the income generated from the asset is enough to secure the borrowing in the first place. We don't have sufficient income (the TV money is highly risky as we lose it if we go down). Man Utd commercial income is sufficient to allow the Glazers to borrow (JP Morgan did the deal for them from memory - they wouldn't touch us for the same sort of thing).
