Funny how opinions differ. I thought Kelly had a good game and was unlucky with the penalty where he barely touched their player. I thought despite his missed header, Quigley was brilliant the way he held up play, wasted very few passes until the end when he was spent. He is a proper centre forward and must be a nightmare to play against. I'm surprised Stockport allowed him to go out on loan to a club in the same division. They must have some fantastic forwards at their disposal.
Sam Graham deserves a mention. I was one of his biggest critics the last 2 seasons but this season he's been much improved and yesterday again was immense.
Hopefully the corner has been turned and we can keep an unbeaten run going. |  | | |

I think we looked better yesterday, without looking particularly brilliant.
Fitness is clearly an issue, and at times it looked like we were playing through treacle. Hopefully 3 weeks now of just Saturday games will help EBJ & Chaddy get the squad fitter as well as match ready. We looked stronger at the back, and the big thing for me was the sheer determination from the whole team to keep a clean sheet... there was a point in the second half where they DRILLED a shot from just inside our area and a Dale player literally threw himself in front of it from point blank range. 3/4 weeks ago I think we would've not done that and relied on the keeper to save it or accepted a goal.
I'd love to see a way of getting the best out of Rodney more closely to Quigley, and think we still lack pace that John & Campbell will probably inject.
Buzzing with the win (it would've been a very long journey home if that penalty had gone in!) but not getting carried away... we'll need to see more improvement as we go along. Apart from a 20 minute spell where they brought on a sub on the right wing, they were the poorest team I've seen for a long time - they reminded me a lot of the worst version of ourselves. Their fans booing their own 'keeper was bizarre too.
A final note for the Colchester fan who fully spat his dummy and threw his programme down the stand in disgust. "Where's your programme gone?" | | | |

Its opened up an interesting question in my mind, too...
When Ball first joined, I (along with others) expected him to be our captain this year due to his reputation, stature, performance & vocalness / bits of shithousery.
We then went with Ebanks-Landell, who is clearly experienced but not particularly vocal and at
times hasn't shown brilliant leadership.
With him injured, we've gone for a captain in RoD who appears a consumate professional, vocal, shows leadership and is basically a proper 'club man'.
3 different types of bloke, different styles and also different positions. The question being what kind of captain do we want? I think it'd be a shame if RoD lost the armband now to EEL, but if he does I'd hope he is named as 'club captain' alongside EEL as 'team captain'. | | | |

I don't think EBJ has made ROD captain in EEL's absence. The guy deserves all the plaudits he's getting, and it's solved one of the longish-standing issues we've had at Dale, having a keeper to build a defence in front of. Credit to our ex-manager for signing him |  |

I would agree with the lack of pace in the team, yesterday, we had the opportunities to break, but we were pedestrian at times. I felt Sinclair going forward was good and he deserves praise for his effort, but Rodney seemed out of sorts and I was disappointed with Odoh when he came on, he did nothing. However it was a win and gives us something to build on.
One thing, I would say,is that we may accept, we are not a good team, but Colchester were a lot worse, they were like the old Dale, more interested in holding to the ball, then shooting (thankfully). How we were not at least two up at half team is beyond me and the level of emotions at the end, the despair in conceding the last minute penalty and the joy in O'Donnell save, and the jingling of nerves as the extra time seemed to be never ending. | | | |

Just had a look at the stats for the bottom 10 clubs, in the last 6 games they have amassed a total of just 6 wins between them and a combined total of 38 points. they have scored 42 goals between them .. 0.7 per game.
We are already looking at 2 mini-divisions a top 14 and a bottom 10 and only 4 points separating the bottom 10. Collectively the bottom 10 teams have scored just 78 goals and conceded 141. Any team that can put any sort of form together can climb towards the top half as only 2 of the 10 have won in their last 3 games.
Just also looked at bottom 10 form vs top 12 clubs, Rochdale have played 7 against the top 12 ( the most in the bottom 10) - 1pt. Only Colchester and Harrogate have managed a single win against top 12 opposition and from a total of 54 games vs the top 12, the bottom 10 have gained a total of just 17 points from the 163 available.
These stats indicate the vital importance of not losing to any of the other 9 in the bottom 10 , denying them of points if we cannot beat them keeps us in touch, any points that can be won from the top 14 teams will be vital as every one of the bottom 10 is struggling to gain points from the teams further up the division

Agee about Sinclair (did his fair share of pressing, covering & blocking their outball) and about Odoh - looked like he was under instructions to not risking losing the ball so played the simple pass to retain possession | |
