Despite 30% possession, 7 shots, 5 on target (okay, that includes Ball's 'attempt too)

Possession doesn't win football matches

Big second half coming up for Dale

1-0 at HT. They are dreadful & we won't get a better chance for an away win all season. Really need the next goal though

They were roundly booed off at HT

impressed with the pressing & tackling - especially Sinclair

I'd say we are better today without being particularly 'good'. At times we look tired and lack pace, but its noticeable that we are defending as a unit and talking a lot more. I don't think RoD has made a save.

They seem to be constantly booing their own keeper, & really turned on their whole team at half time. Get an early goal in the second half and I think we'll be OK today.

Thought we were the better side. Didn’t think they had as much possession as that as they didn’t really do much with it. They look as terrible as we have in recent weeks but we’ve also missed some pretty decent chances and as long as the score remains 1-0 I’ll continue to be nervous as our defence can always produce something awful and it appears our forwards are the very opposite of ruthless in front of goal. Won’t get a better opportunity to get 3 points on the board than this though so let’s hope we see this one out.

Should the keeper have been sent off for the foul for the penalty?

They’re absolutely shot and broken - this has to be 3 points.
A sending off might sink that - Ball off and Malley on.

He pulled him to the ground to clearly deny a goal scoring opportunity. Cynical foul. Should really have been a red IMO

If Mazey was watching he might offer him a contract.

This game is not a relaxing watch

Edit: Big Jim should've been booked then so at least the ref's consistent

Edit 2: Sam Graham's development continues apace

isn't there that new double jeopardy rule, if the keeper gives a penalty a yellow card is given

They have been all over us this half but still haven't had a decent effort on target. Odoh on for Rodney

"Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off."

There was no attempt to play the ball by the keeper he rugby tackled Sinclair to the ground so double jeopardy didn’t apply.

Penalty Miss by Colchester in the last minute. Clumsy challenge by Kelly, clear penalty. Put to O'Donnell's right & he goes the right way.

HUGE !!

finished 1-0 Phewww!!!

Kelly owes O'Donell a drink. That penalty save could kick start our season, if it had gone in it would have been so deflating

Workmanlike rather than brilliant against a poor side, but the midfield seemed to gel quite well. Diagouraga played well as did Jimmy. Still feel we are a little powderpuff up front but a clean sheet nothing to be sneezed at

Well done lads

Well that was tense. Can’t believe we were on the opposite end of a last minute penalty miss today but I guess the old saying is these things do even out. Actually not sure we played that well today but Colchester were pretty poor. In the end it’s the win that matters let’s hope this helps to galvanise the team now as another couple of wins could see us pull well away from trouble. Well done to the lads.

What goes round (missed pen v Orient in added time) comes round in short order, saved pen in added time

Huge relief to get those three points and our arses off the bottom of the league

Well done lads. O'Donnell is rapidly becoming my fave keeper since Neil Edwards

That's two wins on the bounce too. EBJ is starting to make a difference
