Swansea City v WBA : Matchday Thread : 2021/22 AFTERMATH 14:31 - Oct 17 with 18497 views | NotLoyal | Following the swans dominant performance against Cardiff next up at the newly named stadium are West Bromwich Albion in the EFL Championship. It’s a night game which means it will be dark, and there will be floodlights and chips no doubt as well. Match Officials, There will be a referee, and two other chaps there with flags, another chap will be there but not on the pitch, well, sort of not on it but he will be. Referee SIMON HOOPER Flag blokes Daniel Robathan and Derek Eaton Bloke everyone shouts at called the Fourth Official : Lee Swabey, Hoppy hasn’t reffed a swans game this season, he will be easily spotted as he has a John Hartson haircut. Swans record against WBA Games won: 18 Games drawn: 10 Games lost: 17 Latest form guide Swansea City 0 WBA 0 The last time the sides met was on the 7th March 2020. The game ended in a 0-0 draw. It was Swansea who threatened first as defender Joe Rodon saw a header blocked after rising high to meet a Conor Gallagher free-kick, while Andre Ayew could not divert Rhian Brewster's drive goal-wards. Albion were probing at the other end, but the team who began the day as the division's leading scorers struggled to open Swansea up. Freddie Woodman was forced into action just once before the break, the on-loan Newcastle goalkeeper diving to his left to save Callum Robinson's shot after Swansea had given the ball away on the edge of their own box. The breakthrough might have come seconds after the restart as Matt Grimes' drive was parried by Albion keeper Sam Johnstone and Jay Fulton sliced the rebound over the bar. A low Grimes free-kick saw Fulton send another effort over the top before Romaine Sawyers' deflected long-ranger whistled over Woodman's goal. Ayew then saw an overhead kick drift too high before Albion skipper Jake Livermore shot wastefully off target in the dying minutes. https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/news/56017/swansea-city-on-a- https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/news/56028 https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/news/56029 https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/news/56032/swansea-city-stun- Matchday Programme https://issuu.com/swanseacityafc/docs/swans-west-brom-21-22-programme-v01 More to follow.

Not sure about that but c'est la vie

Who was going to get the ball off Hamer to kick start our attacks? No other player has the confidence/ability at the moment to do what Grimesy does.

Immediately pass it back to someone else? Opinions on Grimes seem a bit extreme at the moment. He's either the best thing since sliced bread or hopeless. For me he's playing better than he did for vast swathes of the last two years, but he's hardly irreplaceable. I'd quite like to see how we'd do with the midfield that ended yesterdays game with Downes slotted in instead of him. Let's face it, as things stand he's off in either January or the summer anyway so we might as well start getting used to playing without him now.

The stats say completely different though, he doesn't just pass it "back to someone else". He breaks lines with his passing, he keeps it simple when needed, he makes most tackles, blocks, interceptions consistently. As I said earlier, he's a constant fixture in this team since Potter really and he's proving why.

He'll always draw criticism because he's involved the most. Similar with Naughton recently, being accused of being slow/poor on the ball etc. The players trusted with or taking responsibility inevitably get declared the cause of our problems, while those who fill in around the edges are naturally the better players (until proven otherwise).

I can remember a lot of negativity form yourself last season......despite the fact we were winning....this sesason questioning has arisen due to lack of results....but also praise has come form those same folks following the last two games..... This is my point Personally I shoot from the hip,at least on thi forum. Sometimes,I go OTT but all fans do at some time whether watching in stadium or on telly . We seem to turn in on each other too much for my liking and when we win some turn to the postings record from sometimes years back to prove their point. Utterly bizarre.

That was surprising! Hunnington Baggie singing our fans praises, that we continued supporting them and helped them build confidence. More surprising was the reaction to their own team. They made them sound as bad as Cardiff. They have a way to go to plumb that depth.

Leaving the ground last night I overheard a conversation that included comments such as; 'We're stuck in a relegation battle.' 'I don't like this manager ... too much passing in our own half.' 'Martin is $hit, he'll get us relegated.' Two games in 4 days. A derby game hammering of Cardiff. Coming back from a dreadful start to beat the second in the league and one of the hot favourites for promotion. Mostly entertaining football. 6 points. WTF

I think they realised we were the better side, especially in the second half. They questioned VI's tactics of such a high line which I did when I saw the game last night. Thought they were all decent comments and not one mention of the size of the concourse. Refreshing!

You really heard those comments last night? I don't disbelieve you but I would have to question some peoples sanity, a 3 nil derby thumping a comeback win against the second placed team and still people moan. I think I'd have said something!

I criticised and rightly so only when cooper went negative with his setting up of his team, in Feb when he lost the plot after the norwich and watford games thus costing us an automatic spot, after that we were lucky to stay in the top 6. I also criticised when he wouldn't make substitutions along with lots of people when it was clear they were needed as certain players needed rest and others needed gametime. I criticised because 1. I have an opinion and 2. I love the swans and could see he was fvcking up, also along with other people. I also agree that you and everyone else on this board are also the same as me with 1 and 2, I have never abused you, just thought you were related to cooper several occasions 😉 It's good to have a healthy debate mate and it's good that we seem to be realising the greater good 👠

There is nothing wrong with healthy debate and we are all entitled to our opinions Thankfully most of the time thats all it is on here and yes you are a poster who tends not to be abusive but recently the incindence of abuse and lack of healthy debate seems to have increased to a point where we as a fanbase are almost fighting with each other... I admit I have posted some criticism of Martin over the opening stages of the saeson mainly driven by cooments about how things were much better yet we were not winning games, creating chances or scoring goals...I get and always got the fact "Rome wasnt built in aday" but at the same time I cant accpet we needed 3 -4 transfer windows and 12 months to get it right...get what right.? Any way it does seem things are improving ... Saunday was great 3 goals and a win over them up the road...I have previously posted comments on the game so not repeating them......couldnt get there last night due to work but fist pumped and screamed at the final whistle at how we turned it around..lets hope its onwards and upwards form here. How I long for the good old days when we would go to the pub after rhe game either moan about the match or eulogise about the great game we had witnessed then all was done till the next game...or the next pub visit.....the internet has alot to answer for.... If finances allow Martin to bring in another 2/3 players we could have a real crack at promotion. If we are already in the play offs after Christmas many of us may expect that whatever happens.

Swansea City v WBA : Matchday Thread : 2021/22 TUES UPDATE on 08:58 - Oct 21 by Catullus | Downes took a knock before half time didn't he, he looked a bit limpy after that and Martin said he had a slight groin strain too. It wasn't a sub because Downes was poor and somebody (Nantywatcher?) was slating Downes when he's been brilliant, Grimes is getting up to Downes speed now, looking far better. If we can keep Downes, Ntcham, Pato, Smith and Grimes fit and use them wisely we'll have a strong midfield because they just keep getting better. |
This is it for me as well, Ntcham just oozes class and Pato's industrious endeavour adds great quality to the game, him and Piroe got like a telepathic sense between them, they read each other so well. Downes as been a great find, Grimesy as been excellent it has to be said, Smith looked awesome when he dropped back last night as well.

Don't rate him. Never have. He's making a contribution at the moment but it's nothing particularly special or irreplaceable. I guess it's just something I'm missing. Or not, and when he goes people will wonder what the hell the fuss was about. Time will tell. I'll just quietly sit here in the minority for the moment. I'm used to it.

Can I join you in the minority please winny? Hes a decent player but we have 3 midfield players who imo are playing better than him but that's just my opinion. If he wasn't captain and in the last year of his contract he wouldn't be in the starting eleven, yes that's just my opinion again.
