Fantastic thread. I spotted it earlier and put a few up but there are some beauties since. If I am honest in general Punk hasn't stood the test of time although The Clash are the second best band ever (after Joy Division/New Order - I count them as one) but at the time it was so brilliant. Such a reaction to the boring concept albums and the like. Anyway here is a few more of my favourites from that era.
Oh and lastly, what were The Associates doing on this thread??

....and erm, if you watch the Rejects clip closely, you may spot myself and a few other old farts exploring the Upper Tier of the School End....no names only initials please.

Love it. Peter and the test tube babies, done so many great tunes.
Siouxsie punk? Not sure there, but i'll let you off.
Siouxsie was as punk as they came Tim. One of the originals. The Scream was one of the finest punk albums ever and I believe she was in the original Bill Grundy interview Disco posted up earlier.
Surprised this punk rock, new wave band haven't been included yet but now they are;
What about Bauhaus?! I do realise they're more goth but they are also Post Punk as confirmed by Wiki. Bela Lugosi may well be dead but the Colonel is alive and kicking;
And a last crow barring into this theme with a group, very literally close to home, The Cure, from Crawley. As was/is always the case, the early stuff was the best and besides, who doesn't like a bit of pornography;
More New Wave than (Post) Punk but fcuk it, they're all linked in to those great times with great music. The Hollow Horse VHS music cassette was probably the 3rd that I ever owned after The Cults Dreamtime and U2s Under A Blood Red Sky. A great band that I very rarely play these days, until now;
Hells teeth, I had to rush off after putting the thread up ... there are some absolute beauties posted by you all that i had long forgotten. Some real gems posted.
ever felt cheated ?, not on this thread Johnny..

You're going to really love this thread? By putting up something that has nothing to do with it? Pshaw!!!
This is the moment that converted me. Not literally, I wasn't there (aged 13 and in Harlow) but seeing this most magnificent angry Rock and Roll moment on tele..! Hooked!
It took me till 1996 to see them for real. FInsbury Park, the day after I was at Wembley and saw England beat Spain on penalties in Euro '96. With Stuart Pearce doing that celebration literally right at me and my mates.
Beat that for a weekend!
Now for that moment...
Dunno. I always had the Associates classes as new wave. Each to their own.
Used to love this and I'd totally forgotten about the intro. For those complaining about the first bit "not being punk or new wave" please skip to 2.00 mins.
