Swansea City : Darling and Grimes, the truth is hard to take. Melker update
Tuesday, 28th Jan 2025 18:54 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

With news of a signing on the horizon which pretty much wrote its own story once the Danish stock exchange was informed that Viktor Widell (Melker) was in the throws of a bid - which we can now confirm is Swansea City. His club AaB are obliged to have a transparent trail as they are listed on the stock exchange as Sports Strategy Excellence.

Sporting Director at AaB (Aalborg Boldspilklub af 1885), James Gow has made the transfer talks much easier for the Swans but there's a long way to go before a deal is done. Swansea City have a long history of dragging out their business, fighting for every penny. At times losing players because of their refusal to know the market. That’s the Swansea way though.

And even more so this month.

It’s now clear Andrew Coleman sees himself as ‘El Supremo’ in all of this and as many have caught on from our reports he is controlling all ‘executive’ functions at the club. Everything goes through Andy these days as the squad is losing their captain. That may be good business overall and seemingly now other clubs see the weakness for money and will pounce for Harry Darling. That won’t go away that’s for certain. The issue is Andrew Coleman doesn’t possess the experience or qualities to discover players, speak with their clubs, negotiate a deal and then their salaries. It’s an impossible thing to do literally in your own. And it sounds very much like whoever is now working at the club in certain positions of influence are slowly being restricted in what they can do.

That’s our primary concern. Not so much that a millionaire on the back of his time at the Swans is leaving. It’s more about how the club is being run even with the aforementioned Harry Darling also tipped to leave. On the news on Melker he seems to be a very well thought of player at AaB who play in the SuperLiga in Denmark. Melker will see this move as a stepping stone if it does go through, with Melker enjoying a decent season for his club and getting some top reviews. The Swedish U21 international is keen on a move away from Denmark and this really does rely on Andrew Coleman and whoever he trusts at the club. Time of course is of the essence.

The news on Harry Darling has taken an upturn with Sheffield United now reported as monitoring him. Again, this is an inevitable conclusion to the lack of desire to offer Harry a proper contract in the summer. He has to go this January otherwise the club will lose him for free in June. Hard to take ? It’s common sense, much the same as the sale of a near thirty year old to Coventry City. Grimes (below) knows he will never get a contract in SA1 like the one he has at Swansea now, and the club wouldn’t offer anything near that in 2027. With his signing on fee and increase of around ten thousand a week the Swans captain won’t shed too many tears on his departure.

People can get as rattled about this January as they like, the club is for some reason being put on hold and the pain is being felt, but life goes on, real life as well.
