Swansea City : Luke Williams immediate future confirmed PLUS transfer bid made
Wednesday, 29th Jan 2025 14:16 by Keith Haynes

Swansea City head coach, Luke Williams can breath a sigh of a relief (for now) as he will be taking charge of the Swans for Saturdays game against Coventry City at the Swansea.com (3pm)

The reason though won’t settle him too much. We have been told that Luke has sought assurances as to his future with Chairman, Andrew Coleman as he struggles with all the jobs he can do in one week. The first reason we have been informed is the Chairman is so busy with the transfer window (he doesn’t need to be, but he is) and the issues created by a sacking and that will include his staff would interfere with his work before 11pm on Monday. We have to agree with that, searching for replacements and then only after negotiating Williams leaving, the figures etc we know would come in at a pretty penny. We haven’t asked (Liam!) for an amount. The sacking plus reconstruction of the coaching team, hiring a new man etc, would take Coleman’s mind off the ball at a crucial time. Coleman has spoken about this being a vital time for the club

The other reason, and most people will guess this is profit and sustainability. To pay off Williams and co would hit the P&S returns for this year. (which won’t be returned until next year) That seems another decent reason but in reality most of these pay offs are not done all at once, and most certainly can be negotiated upon releasing Williams. The caveat of course when we think back to last January when Coleman made his mercy dash to speak directly with Williams are the agreements made at that time. Coleman was so keen to get Williams to the club he would have made some compromises to be included in Williams contract. The first openly known agreement was a three and a half year contract. At the time nobody really bothered about that, but it’s coming back to haunt the Swans now. There is still two and a half years to go, more compensation of course. At the time the desperation to employ Williams, plus the pay off to Notts County wasn’t cheap. That search took a month with people at the club at the time able to take the pressure off Coleman.

Now he is a few people down on that. You can be assured this current contract would cost far too much to pay off at this time and would impact greatly on the club. The other thing, and that’s just a human trait is the Chairman appointed Williams, in effect he is Coleman’s man. Any sacking would reflect on him, or more to the point his ego. It would be an admission that all the money spent on Williams to date was a waste and a bad business decision. Coleman really won’t want that on his Swansea track record. We’ve spoken to two sources who led us to divulge the new investors as an exclusive plus Tyler Morse a week before it was announced and they tell us this. They are not entirely happy with the Williams situation but can see the negativity financially on the business side of sacking him. In normal situations he would be long gone. And despite what certain people infer Coleman was not at all happy with his ‘ask my agent’ comment earlier on this month. (WBA) Couple that with an appalling track record of results this year and Williams can count himself lucky. Under his guidance players have lost form as the squad face a relegation fight. Very few if any football manager would survive this without good reason.

And that reason is, as it always has been is money. Regardless of the money now coming in for Grimes, potentially Harry Darling, plus sell ons for Kyle Joseph and Morgan Whittaker it really doesn’t come in to it. The use of a part of that money to sack Williams is being seen as pointless, and of course that leaves the club in the same scenario regards P&S as they were in before. We have been told that Luke Williams is safe for now. Of course another dismal performance on Saturday against Coventry would again raise his future employment as an issue. It’s not a case of not wanting to sack Williams, it’s a case of wasting money to do so.

It is now being reported that a firm bid has been made to Danish club AaB for the services of Swedish midfielder Melker Widell. Foreign outlets believe the bid has definitely turned the heads of his current club and should be accepted. It is believed in euros we are talking around three million plus. However they know the situation at Swansea, and could drag this out to the last minute.

Swansea City take on Coventry City at 3pm this coming Saturday at the Swansea.com at 3pm.
