Another striker out ? Sory Kaba latest as time ticks on
Wednesday, 31st Jul 2024 08:00 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

Swansea City are on a hurry up to convince three players of interest that their futures are better at Swansea than elsewhere. Players are being linked and it very much tastes like there is a sense of desperation with the Swans just ten days away from another Championship campaign.

Coupled with that news there is a clear interest in Mykola Kukharevych from Hibernian (reported early yesterday on the site forum) However, there are two issues, one is Hibs being able to take on his contract for a full season which is believed to be around twenty three thousand pounds a month. And on that Derby had to take on all of Jerry Yates salary and conditions before it was agreed he could leave the Swans on loan. That’s the Swans policy on first team squad players going out on loan. And that will be the same for Hibernian. There are numerous other clubs interested in Mykola who hasn’t clicked at Swansea and has been pretty much disregarded by Luke Williams and Michael Duff.

There have been numerous reasons given to us about why.

The second issue is Hibs want their chosen striker into Easter road before the big SPL kick off on Saturday. And they have other targets. However, it now seems Mykola will leave Swansea at the very least on loan for next season. That leaves the Swans with Liam Cullen as the only proven goalscorer at the club. We have managed to speak to a source who told us last evening that our bulletin yesterday morning was pretty much on the button with regards to Swansea City’s current financial and transfer position.

Before Mykola (below) can be loaned out with Cameron Congreve and Joel Cotterill there has to be some quick decision making at Swansea City. Mykola, Congreve and Cotterill, the latter two on small salaries will save the Swans around forty thousand pounds a month. That’s further savings made from what has been some interesting financial moves by the Swans over the past year. The monthly salary outlay has been vastly reduced during that time, and with Cameron Congreve joining newly promoted Bromley and Joel Cotterill going to Swindon it all helps of course.

The squad now at Swansea looks ridiculously thin.

We have also had a discussion about the recent links to twenty nine year old Sory Kaba who scored eight goals between January and May last year from seventeen games for Cardiff City. Before that he was at FC Midtjylland where again he scored goals. His permanent move to Las Palmas in Gran’ Canaria last year hasn’t been the success he hoped. The Guinean seems to be out of favour with the arrival at the club of ex Swans player Oli McBurnie which has raised at least four Championship clubs interest. There are issues. We have been told that if the Swans are now cutting their cloth in a very thorough way then a purchase and new contract for Kaba seems way out of their reach. His salary will be in excess of fifty thousand pounds a month, plus the fee will run to at least one and a half million pounds. If as suggested that Macaulay Langstaff became an issue due to his own salary requests, then Kaba will present the same problems to Swansea City.

Clubs with a far higher budget like Middlesbrough (despite massive debt) are also rumoured to be far more interested than the Swans, and of course there’s an obvious link to Cardiff City. A loan option is there, but there is stiff competition, and really unless these latest savings are released for the recruitment of a half decent striker then where do the club look now ? There is some discontent with the club, the immediacy of the situation becoming urgent, and only ten days away from another campaign there must be alternative solutions.

We are hoping by tomorrow evening there may be more news, but as we said, it’s all getting a bit desperate.
