Michael Duff starts his day at Fairwood as new Swansea City boss Friday, 23rd Jun 2023 10:45 by @Cornish67David Michael Duff meets the Swansea City squad this morning and breaks the ice with his first day at Fairwood before the Swans travel out to La Finca in Spain. The usual day one player evaluation methods will take place within the superb elite facility as we have all seen many times before. In amongst the balanced cardio loads, aerobics and interval sprints which pre season preparation is mostly about Duff will want to analyse his players and has already made it clear this is an area he considers important. “My immediate aims are to get a helicopter view of the landscape and the players, physically and mentally. What do they look like? What is their attitude like? And that’s the same for all the staff too. Ultimately, we want to walk out of pre-season with a fit group of players who are fresh” Duff said yesterday. Duff’s support team are yet to be announced but as we have seen with Russell Martin there will be space available for certain important posts. Assistant Head Coach Martin Paterson and First Team Coach, Martin Devaney will be the most likely appointments to come to the Swans. Both are long term friends of Duff and they know each other very well. On the sporting performance curve there will be a need qualified performance analysts and performance coaches. Whether Duff believes the current staff are good enough for the Swans at Barnsley is yet to be seen. Swansea City will also need a goalkeeping coach. They could do a lot worse than Andrew Sparkes who we coincidentally featured last week. That exclusive interview is here –> âš½ï¸ Goalkeeper Coach Sparkes Swansea City are also settling the releases of four backroom staff with Southampton who will join Russell Martin at Swansea, the latest on that is there seems to be little preventing that happening. It will be interesting to see of those backroom staff attend Fairwood this morning. The majority ownership need to be congratulated for moving swiftly regards the appointment of Michael Duff in what is double quick time. And with five weeks of training and friendly matches there is plenty to look forward to. We will endeavour of course to place more context on Swans news and offer you more in-depth analysis of that news as the summer progresses.
