QPR are reportably offering Kaspars Gorkss plus cash for Jason Puncheon
Upon hearing reports that QPR are looking to sign Jason Puncheon and are about to offer their central defender Kaspars Gorkss plus a cash sum the first reaction of many Saints fans would be to bite their hands off.
Its fair to say that Jason Puncheon made little contribution to our season last year and it cant be said he didnt have the chance too, after playing the opening 15 games without scoring a goal.
So offloading him would be a priority for the Saints manager, especially as hopefully it increases his spending power if he is allowed to use the money received.
So the QPR offer sounds ideal especially as it seemingly not only offers some cash but their latvianInternational centre half Kaspars Gorkss.
On the face of it Gorkss would be just the kind of central defender that Saints would look for, at 6ft 3 he is tall and commanding and having played for the last five seasons in England firstly for Blackpool and lattery QPR he has the experience in this country and perhaps as importantly the Championship where he has spent four of those five seasons.
Winning promotion is also in his locker, he played in the Blackpool side that won the League 1 play off finals in 2007, before joining Rangers a year later for £250,000 plus two players and he was also a virtual ever present in QPR's Championship winning side last term, indeed at Loftus Road he has played most of the games in his three seasons there.
So on the face of it for Saints this looks like being a good deal, it has all three requisites that we want, offloading a troublesome player, getting in a decent centre half and some cash in the bank to boot.

Gorkss is a very solid Championship centre half and it's fair to say most QPR fans are surprised to hear we may be considering this. Saints definitely getting the better end of the deal.

Exactly Saint Nick! An established centre half for a bit part player plus cash doesn't make any sense to me. Consistently our best defender for the last few seasons, this can only be mischief making journalism. Don't get me wrong, love to see the saints do well, but not at our expense!! :)

Maybe we are offering Puncheon plus cash. Because of our desire to get rid of him, his value of only 1m is deceptive. Punch could be a good signing for QPR. He has performed at Premier level and I certainly wouldn’t want to play against him in the Championship. His potential ability is without question; however it's obvious his bridges have been burned. Whether this is a permanent personality flaw only time will tell, but I feel that whoever signs him will get a bargin.

I don't get Jason Puncheon. He was decent when he played against the Saints, but then useless when he played for us. Every week I willed him to prove himself and to get out of his super skybound shots on target, and how does he repay us for that..? Does he stay and prove himself? No he scarpers off to another club at the first opportunity. Personally I'd swap him for a football or a training bib, or something half useful. From the sounds of it though it can't be right that QPR would release their man.

Obviously like most Saints fans we'd love this deal to come off. Also for the QPR fans you might be surprised at Puncheons quality,it just depends on whether Neil Warnock can manage him properly. When on form and motivated he has a sweet left foot and is very dangerous cutting inside and causing problems around the box, I just think he has an attitude problem. We really need another CB to partner Fonte,Gorkiss is proven quality at this level so I wouldnt be to bothered if we dont receive any cash, I would happily accept a straight swap

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process.
