Why is Carlisle not being video steamed in UK
at 15:10 23 Dec 2021

I thought that as it was not a Saturday 3.00 p.m. kick-off this game would be available to watch on I-Follow. Games at other clubs on Boxing Day appear to be. Is it because Carlisle don't provide the service. Does anyone have any ideas?

What is happening with I-Follow for this season
at 22:05 21 Jul 2021

Due to illness and treatment meaning the COVID vaccinations don't work, I will need to isolate for at least the 21/22 season. Last season I was able to watch Dale on I-Follow every week due to spectators not being allowed to attend matches.

I am not sure what will happen this season. Will it revert back to only being accessible for people abroad, or maybe games where away fans are not allowed?

Despite the relaxations and potential return to full capacity, I suspect there maybe a few others who even if vaccinated may not feel entirely safe joining crowds, but who would like to continue watching I-Follow in the UK. I know I would be more than happy to buy a season ticket for I-follow home games so the club would not lose money in comparison with me attending matches. I would also like to subscribe for each away game, like last season if possible.

Does anyone know what the position is likely to be this season?

Not convinced by 4-3-3
at 12:08 10 Sep 2012

Although yet to be convinced that Donnelly (not sure about his best position) and Adebola (been a very good player but has not scored many for a long time now) are good signings, I don't think the players are as bad as they looked on Saturday.

Don't think they appear suited to 4.3.3. 5 central strikers (Donnelly, Adebola, Grant, Grimes, Curran) and Putteril but not one is a natural wide player. 4 central midfielders (B-M, Kennedy, Cavanagh, Tutte). We know 3 of these are defensive and none really get forward to support Adebola. Tutte has looked a bit more postive this season but he is no Done in terms of an attacking midfielder.

No natural width. Easy to defend when everything is played in the central 20 yards. Need a natural winger and ability to play with width if only to have a plan B

Look at the player in possession. How many options does he have? Very few except to go back as the movement is poor or there are no outlet balls to either flank. Has nearly always been like this at Dale with the exception of under Hill. However he did have Kennedy, Perkins, Dawson, Wiseman, O;Grady, Buckley, Le Fondre, Dagnell, Done, who are now at Championship sides and above as well as Adams, A-A who are in good L1 sides. Maybe it is just that we are lacking the quality of player we grew used to for a while.

I know other teams play 4-3-3 but they seem to do it better. Never a particular favourite formation of mine even when played well

Coleman has to be given time now
at 13:13 24 Jan 2012

Given we have had to pay substantial compensation to Eyre/Bunn and Accrington to get John Coleman making funds even tighter than normal, we need to give him a chance and not get too upset if he cannot turn things round immediately. He ticks the boxes in that he signs young players, has developed and sold a few players for money, knows the much underused non-league scene, and has worked with tight budgets, punching above his club's weight.

I think his main problem is that essentially the majority of players are not good enough for League 1. 5 players of League 1 standard or above (mainly above) left in the Summer, others like Buckley, Kennedy, Dagnall had already left. To my mind none of the players brought in post Hill have shown themselves to be League 1 standard individually (except Ball first time round) so it is not surprising that collectively we have been failing. OK Bogdanovic and Bunn had the odd good game and Darby could become League 1 in a stronger all round team.

Of our permanent players, to my mind Widdowson and Adams are League 1 players. Kennedy just maybe if he has pace alongside him. Jones was last season but has not maintained his form as the side has deteriorated this. Tutte and Grimes may have potential if end product and workrate can be improved respectively. The postive side is that except for Widdowson, they are all under contract for next season along with Holness (League 2 player without someone of Dawson's calibre alongside him), and Jordan (good footballer and passer but too slow for full back and too prone to mistakes for my liking), so the others can all be replaced.

Yes some balance, organisation, motivation, fighting spirit and constistant team selection and tactics will help and make all players look better, but as we are generally a small side with no pace it will only go so far. Better players will be required. It was here that Eyre essentially failed in my view along with not signing a target man (I am not sure what Bergkhamp was), to replace OGrady.

Coleman will probably need the Summer to clear out the players and bring in new ones. Beech was saddled with a large squad (for Dale) not up to standard, but did play 5 poor or out of form sides out of 6 and could only muster 3 draws. with the 3 defeats being shocking performances Coleman has to cope with playing against better sides more often now. It will be a magnificent performance if he avoids relegation but it will not be his fault if we do not.

How long would you give the next Manager?
at 16:18 7 Nov 2011

If the Message board posting majority (not sure majority of support by the way, just the vocal ones) succeeded in a change of manager, how long would you give the next manager?

If he had not started winning by January/February would he have to go as well?

Am amused by the vitriol of some, and slight over-reaction to Dale not doing well in League 1 (only our second season at this level in over 35 years).

Hill knew Dale would be in trouble this season. Hence why he made a not very wise career move in joining a skint and by Championship standards smal club in Barnsley rather than waiting for a better job to come along.

Swindon lost 2 key players and went from Play off finalists to Relegation last season - with an experienced manager and much bigger wage budget. It can happen and we lost 4 out of best 5 players from last season.

Eyre has made big mistakes and the best you can say is the jury is out, the reality is probably much worse. We have not looked a side since Widdowson got injured and Ball left.

But it is not a surprise that we are struggling. The players he was left with given the inevitable loss of O'Grady, were not League 1 standard with the possible exceptions of Widdowson, Adams, and Jones. We either had to find some players as good as O'Grady and Dawson (unlikely) who could carry the team or improve all the other positions to compensate (very difficult). We have done neither. Only Ball has been an improvement. The inexperienced Darby, Tutte, and Grimes have potential but are not going to change a team on their own. The others have disappointed. Holden did well v MK Dons but one game is not enough to judge.

Number of Loan Signings Allowed in a Season
at 15:36 21 Oct 2011

I know we can only have 5 loan players in a matchday squad but how many loan signings can we make in a season? Had heard it was 8 but don't know.

Are youth loans still allowed and if so what is the criteria? Thought one of our loan players (Thompson?) was a youth loan last season.

Does a loan signing not count if subsequently made permanent?

We have had Keane, Darby, Pim, B-H, Benali, Ball and Eccleston who have been signed on loan already.

If 8 were a season limit, only have one left for whole of season.

Apologies if this has been answered previously.

Struggling League 1 teams so far
at 11:11 5 Sep 2011

Just looking at the teams struggling with us there is a common theme with some of the teams (aside from obviously not winning)

Bournemouth - lost Ings, Robinson for money having also lost Mcqoid last January.
Exeter - lost Hartley and Cureton - their creative and scoring forces from last season
Chesterfield - lost Davies - their main goalscorerer from last season. Smalley played well also at end of season and has gone

How will Bury fare having sold probably their 2 best players last week. They have had a good start and can make loan signings but Lowe will be hard to replace.

Yeovil and Walsall were weak last season and seem to be of similar standards so far this season.

I guess Orient's poor start is a a bit of a surprise given they looked to have a decent side by the end of the season and would have had a bit of money from the Arsenal FA Cup ties.

Very early days though.... Most worrying thing for Dale is we do not seem to have many options for change until January given we have our quota of loan signings already.
