Swansea City will look to within before making Summer transfer moves 1st May 2023 11:14
The usual circulation of stories and links to players started some weeks ago, and the more financially healthy clubs are already signing those players now with a view to joining them come the start of the summer window. ( June 10th ) 2

Asking Russell to consider players from within will result in few coming through. Players making the step up have tended to be forced on Martin when his favoured played (e.g. Fisher and Darling) have been shown as inferior to what we already have.
Ps
Our average attendance when we were promoted was 15,507.
Currently 16,694
So we have averaged more than 1,000 more than when we were flying.

Poll: Should the summer transfer window close before the season starts?

We should always be looking within and only buying what we really need. Some seasons we need to buy in more than others, it's always been that way.

I justhope this doesn't mean we'll be thrusting players into the first team too soon?

If Piroe is sold we'll need Cullen, Joseph and Whittaker but what if 2 of them leave as well?

If we had deent full backs coming through surely we'd have seen something of them already. It seems to me we have just been told not to get our hopes up because we probably won't be buying anyone, it's just been dressed up in a few nicer words.

I would imagine the Owners would have been upset at the Potter season. They gave him £7m which seemed parsimonious at the time but quite q generous today.

He brought in four modest talents that Cooper dumped 3 fr nothing and Celina recovering part of his fee. They would argue the Potter actually preferred alternatives to at least three of these players from the academy who were markedly better.

Declan John - Connor Roberts was markedly better
Joel Asoro - Dan James was markedly better
Barry McKay - Matt Grimes was markedly better

Bersant Celina probably better than George Byers to be fair but both released by Cooper. Byers was the pick of the u21 team that included James and McBurney.

I would say there’s nobody in the u21 set up better than Darling or Fisher.

Around £50m came in from player sales that season. £7m in purchases was peanuts.

Enough to buy Ivan Toney at the time. The £50m was used to cover deficits in the follwng years and get huge wages off the books.

Potter was a great manager for two or three seasons but did not spend his money well. Brendan signed Sinclair. Potter spent the same on Barry McKay. These things count.
