Fifth Test between England and India cancelled ... on 10:24 - Sep 10 with 769 views | CountyJim | I smell a rat here This is what Aggers on BBC website said This is quite bizarre because last night the players all passed their PCR tests. We went to bed thinking the match would go ahead. I suspect the IPL would have a lot to do with this. It starts in 10 days' time. The players are on huge contacts. The IPL is worth £300m to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). They are desperate to protect their product and the players protect their contracts. This stands to cost the ECB £20m, one assumes there would be some negotiations about that with the BCCI. It is a shame Covid has interfered with a brilliant series.

Not a rat Jim, but a great big colony of them. Would not be surprised that they did not fancy playing at a sodden ground (with a couple of overcast days to come) and the looming cash cow of the IPL-BCCI control cricket now with ECB and CA as willing partners. Thank god the kiwis can still put a spoke in their wheels.

It's chucked it down in west Wirral too. We are more exposed here in some ways and it's still persisting down. Good for the gardens though.

Not sure of the detail but my sister had two tests on Wednesday because she was feeling unwell and was due to go away for a few days, both were negative ,her condition didn't improve yesterday so she took another test and that came back positive , who knows

All the media were under the impression that it was going ahead last night following negative PCR tests from all the Indian players. Calling it off that late was unforgivable. It's been appallingly mis managed.

It is almost as though there was no contingency for a virus outbreak, which has been in the camp for a week or so. Players refusing to play after everyone was tested negative by PCR says to me that they did not want to risk the IPL money. [Post edited 10 Sep 2021 12:42]

It seems three of the Indian team had flown out to Abu Dhabi 2 days before the test was cancelled so they could complete their quarantine period before IPL started. Not good enough from the Indian cricket board. It has also come to light that back in May the Indian cricket board had asked for the 5th test to be cancelled or have the date changed.
