How much custom on non matchday though. Can't rely just on a busy day once a fortnight, although it helped keep many of the pubs at the vetch going for years. They nearly all shut down once the football moved.

A few pubs around the stadium struggle on non-matchdays. Getting harder and harder to attract enough trade to keep going otherwise.

It can be done just about, but it's not easy. You need to lean heavily into stuff like Pool, Darts, Quizzes, live music etc though. Football should be the cherry on top, not the whole cake. Running a pub as a tenant is hard, thankless, often poorly paid work.

Pool and darts are ok but you normally get 16 people once a fortnight.

Live music can pay off and it can be a risk. Better off mixing it up a bit between bands, duos, single acts and Karaoke so costs vary. Important thing is regulars know that there's something on on a particular night. Pool and Darts can generate more if you've got more than one team. There were about eight teams playing out of my mother's place at one point between Darts (mens and ladies), Pool & Snooker three or four nights a week. Harder work, but again that's your bread and butter. Food trade is where it's at now though. [Post edited 12 Sep 2021 11:58]

Some local bands charge £1000 for a 90 minute set which I find absurd when the pub is trying so hard to make sure it survives as a business while the giggers carry on their care free love. I love the entertainment but we all like going out for food and a drink.
