Does it assume that? What if the 80% think like me, that those who want to use Welsh or learn Welsh are free to do so but that more of the money spent on Welsh promotion could be better used elsewhere?
As any teacher can tell you, be it anywhere in the Uk, schools need more money and so does pretty much every public service with some on the verge of collapse and facing big cuts.
I will always argue that preserving life and the quality of life is more important than a language. If something isn't strong enough to survive on its own merits then let it die out naturally. Welsh won't die though, it has its strongholds. |
I don’t see it as any different to supporting other parts of Welsh culture - arts, music, environment etc.

The NHS is not free you pay NI, VAT and income tax to fund it.
It is funded from General taxation as well as corporation tax
Unfortunately the NHS is very inefficient in the way it is run wasting billions a year with no accountability to anyone as the NHS thinks it will be funded from a bottomless pit of money.

The Welsh government spends half of it’s total budget on health and social services which amounts to £12 billion pounds, it spends £23 million pounds on the Welsh language which is a small fraction of the total budget.

I'm critical of the Senedd because they waste too much money when we clearly are not going to get a massive increase in funding and the Senedd always claims we are underfunded. Seeing as we are so underfunded, shouldn't the Senedd be very much more careful where they spend OUR money?
It's not a single subject argument, it's not Welsh v anything. It's a bout a wasting of tens of millions when we don't have tens of millions to waste.
Some of you line up to defend the Senedd and throw in the "what about Westminster" line all the time.
How about holding our own government to account? How about prioritising the living?

Brexit alone has cost the UK £140bn so far, according to new analysis, and could see the nation £311bn worse off by the middle of the next decade
So why aren’t you calling out the London rule waste..?
