Swansea City put forward a project plan to play in the Welsh cup (part 2) 30th Sep 2024 18:31
This evening the top story is Welsh clubs want to play in Europe via the Welsh League Cup ? There’s no cake and eating it here, is this another route to being rejected by the Football Association in England as it’s a yearly invite. Would the football league vote against this move, and ask for Welsh clubs to be expelled, if it is agreed ? 1

It’s all above.

Pointless entering the FA Cup or League Cup then , no chance of the bigger pot .

Sure the lower teir EFL Clubs will be thrilled at the thought of being beaten by a Welsh Football Club with no prospect of lifting a trophy , gained by no interest in that cup run .

Money spinner for the lower teams now lost because they lost to Swans .

The talking will then turn to why are Welsh Clubs in the EFL .
You have your own divisions in The Welsh Championship , go play there .

And even if you could make a valid argument against your last point, public opinion will be strong in counteracting it, fairly or not. This is a disaster, at best not a good look at worst putting our EFL membership in jeopardy. I can’t believe Huw Jenkins is behind this. I thought he’d have much more awareness of the politics of the situation.

Welsh teams have won English trophies only twice on their history. It was never a motivation to represent the English leagues. Few on here are anti Team GB.

It seems FAW have already got the nod off EUFA who forced the creation of the LoW in the first place. ( I was wrong about that it seems);

It is if no interest whatsoever to the EFL teams who are more upset about Ryan Reynolds and co.

Anti Welsh comments will go ahead for a year or two then back to normality of the 1980s.

I see the Euro adventure being good for content for " This is Wrexham". A thumping Welsh cup final Swansea v Wrexham live coast to coast USA. Oh yum yes please . Coleman and Reynolds. Andy would love an interview with 1573. Miami FM.

Then there will he the hilarious Euro trip to Dinamo Tirana in Albania where Reynolds has lunch at the Presidential Palace.

The truth is, even if it doesn’t go ahead, there has been damage already as this plan has been made aware to clubs and their fans around the EFL. We’ve just given them a nice thorny stick with which to beat us at every opportunity. LUNACY!!!

You wear the flag and seemingly have no concerns about Team GB which is another anomaly. This notionally puts the FAW at risk.

Re reading the WoL account it seems FAW only need approval off the EPL.

£3m for the FAW. Not sure where the figures come from? .Americans and Malaysian owners and Huw all over it. Little timid Welsh living if in fear of English reaction.

I personally am not sure about this but Welsh football leaders want growth not " we know what we are" shrinkage being promoted ted by the rugby wimps.

Public opinion gave us Brexit and shrinkage.

They have been using ethnic slurs against us for decades. The Welsh meekly accept these tropes and even engage in a wimpish fashion.

If the EFL and EPL agreed the English yobs a can take a hike. Say no to fear and cap doffing.

This isn’t about Team GB, it’s about club football and membership of the EFL so don’t go off on tangents again.

If you are happy to see our membership of the EFL jeopardised by such an action just because you don’t want to see yourself as subservient to the English (your perception not mine) then there’s nothing I can do about your insecurities.

And the fact you keep going on (and on) about such things and ethnic slurs, chants etc. I can only assume you are a bitter man who despises the English so much that you sit in the corner of your room muttering to yourself. You’re a sad man!

Don’t cut your nose to spite your face.

All he says is how good this is for Welsh football and omitting to say what benefits there are to the Swans. If there aren’t any then why on earth are we doing this??? It’s not for us to help other Welsh clubs, it’s nothing to do with us. Football clubs can’t put themselves in a position where there is a possibility of removal from lucrative competitions, increase their workload and hence player fatigue and burn out or risk getting injured just to help other clubs. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. There is something else afoot here and I’m very suspicious.

One way to do it maybe is to allow our U21s with no senior registered players into the competition. That would give them experience of different levels of football, more competition and not dominate the competition which you’d feel the EFL teams would. That woukdnt go down too well maybe but much better than first team involvement.

You are the nationalistic flag waver not me. Wales is a football anomaly not a UN state with a " national " football team. It is accepted as UK invested football over 120 years ago.

Welsh teams playing in the English leagues is also anomalous for the same reasons. Pragmatism over principles.

You are against this scheme but presumably favour Team GB. The principles are the same. I invite your to reject Team GB. Like the club deal it is an anomaly.

No footballers outside UK can represent two nations simultaneously.

Dear God!

Ok, each para in turn:
I’d wager you are a nationalist flag waver but not the same flag as mine but it’s irrelevant here.

Yes, it is anomalous and as such we need to protect it. Any actions such as these would give those with a ‘get the Welsh teams out’ agenda a good platform on which to make their case.

Totally irrelevant to this discussion.

Totally irrelevant in this discussion.

Stick to the thread not what point you want to get over. You’re like a politician but nowhere near as clever (and that’s saying something).

The reason is money and exposure. Americans think big and some Welsh think small. Welsh rugby midgets have a strategy of shrinkage. They will pay big money to move into a smaller stadium with no resources.

Wrexham. V Swansea for Euro games will get fans and TV coverage. Reynolds has invigorated Wrexham run into the ground by their Trust who struggled to pay the gas bill.

Then there is exposure for the advertisers. Extra for that especially if ion French Spanish or German TV. Possibly a new celebration.

Money pays the bills and allows for a bigger squad.

Andy Coleman was on the Today programme this morning on BBC Radio 4.
It is on BBC Sounds.
He says the Trust support the proposal.

Did our last owners think big and leave us without a pot to piss in without coming foul of the regulations.

And some people don’t think at all!

So you are happy to alienate ourselves and put our membership of the EFL or PL in jeopardy to help out non league Welsh football??

Also, and I may be wrong, isn’t it a case that we wouldn’t benefit financially from being in this competition. If so, I ask again, what is the point!

Can we keep politics out of this thread.
Maybe the moderators can move the political comments to the non-football board.
