Swansea City v Gillingham Match day thread 19:30 - Aug 10 with 15756 views | ModeratorC | The biggest cup game of the season so far ! An unusual evening with both Swansea and Cardiff playing at home, that rarely happens. Cardiff’s gate will be boosted by a big number of Rovers fans to save their embarrassment. The Swans always double if not more the attendance of their non rivals with very few away supporters in tow. Swansea City v Gillingham : Team News & managers 13th Aug 2024 16:10The Swans and the Gills met up for a spot in the second round of the southern draw in this seasons League Cup tonight (7:45pm) The attendance isn’t expected to be high, so if you can it’s worth an impromptu visit to the Swansea.Com this evening ? 0 What a very odd game, Swans go through to round two 13th Aug 2024 22:23It was one of the most one sided games you could ever see, and even then Gillingham came good with a goal right at the end before the Swans scored number three. It was painful at times, the negativity almost infuriating when so many chances and opportunities were made. The desire to pass backwards time and time again when a bit of courage would have worked was so annoying. But a win is a win and the Swans go through. 0

Swansea City v Gillingham Match day thread 🔴Match Day on 21:43 - Aug 13 by union_jack | We spent so long getting the ball up field because we felt we needed to complete at least 6 passes before we do. An example if this was in the 49th minute. The ball was being triangulated over on our left, Cabango on his own in the right. Only after the ball going to each in the triangle did it come to Cabango who then pushed it forward. But it’s these delays tha allow better teams who would have studied us to arrange the DM and back line accordingly. We need to be quicker. Sorry about these points being made ad nauseum points but my frustration is getting the better of me. |
but wasnt this what fans wanted the myhtical possesion passing football of the "Swansea way"

Swansea City v Gillingham Match day thread 🔴Match Day on 21:40 - Aug 13 by dantheswansman | The second these guys play positive football they score, ffs , its not rocket science , this holding onto the ball and keeping it like their lives depend upon it is so wrong. We see what happens when they play positive, ffs, i am done with the Swans keeping possession like its some kind of trophy. they can do it,. they can score, they can be positive, do it ffs Anyone who disagreed with me knows nothing about playing football, nothing at all, not a single thing, prove right yet again! Your last paragraph is at least disingenuous and worst arrogant, there are many knowledgeable posters on here who have just a valid opinion as yourself, the rest I agree with.

He got beyond the last man a few times, but refused to cross it - rather turn and pass it back. He wasn't the only one.

Not far enough for him to get a decent cross in though. As Joe said he isnt a winger.

Swansea City v Gillingham Match day thread 🔴Match Day on 23:36 - Aug 13 with 1195 views | RichardO | Risk adverse turgid stuff, The unwillingness of players to turn with the ball in the centre of the pitch once space had been created was astounding.meaning very little progressed through the middle of the pitch The sole purpose of our game it would seem is to be able to get the ball from one wing to the other but it was so slow that it didn't stretch Gillingham at all even after they went down to ten men. The difference between the teams was the different class of players Ronald and Eom. You couldn't say any of our players played badly as individuals but it was slow and ponderous with players thinking a bouncing ball can be played to a teammate at chest height within a small radius while opposition players swarm around. Looks like no future corners of ours will be taken without our big centrehalves firmly routed back in defence that will reduce our goals for count. I think our back ups at centre half and left back have been decided given the lack of incoming and any mistake they made were not punished, I'm sure William's will stamp out Pedersen's desire to get the ball quickly up the field, I was surprised to see some tidy left foot passing which actually helped both Ronald and Eom find space to take on defenders. Abdulai out of position actually made a nuisance of himself but with the risk adverse doctrine obviously implanted in his psyche didn't really try beat his marker given the slow rate of delivery of the ball to him until late in the game and was on hand to score for the centre of the penalty area after great play by Eom Key and Tymon messaged to support the wingers and was.duly taken to heart as they came on spending lots of time beyond their wingers and I was somewhat alarmed to see what was left of our defence outnumbered quite often towards the end of the game by a team down to ten men. A very illuminating evening down the stadium but it was a very predictable especially conceding an 85th min goal to ramp up the dismay. As has already has been said why move the ball with one pass when you can have six passes to achieve the same aim but slowly giving the opposition every chance to snuff out anything that looks adventurous. Game won but very few chance created as a team until the latter stages of the game. [Post edited 14 Aug 7:12]

Notts County spent an awful lot of money whilst he was there. It's basically the only reason why they were competitive with Wrexham. Easier to steamroller teams when your squad is that much better than theirs. [Post edited 14 Aug 7:02]

| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Notts Co assembled a squad of better than average Conference League players. The Swans on the other hand … its not difficult to work out

The silence evidenced that This was a time to see if we could do without Grines and/ or Fulton Eom looks a player Just how our new young striker must feel I shudder to think. Like a schoolyard kid ignored by sulking class mates. Unforgivable That had nothing to do with anyone else but Williams Is he the coach or not If you havent wingers ,play to the strengths of others .

Great post again Richard. You’ve put together everything most have us are thinking and have posted ourselves. I’m not sure any additions are going to change our style or approach to a game. It will just strengthen the squad. Williams seems incapable or unwilling to play a direct style. Last night was an opportunity to try that from the off but definitely after they went down to 10. Although there was a bit more directness towards the end, it was too little, too late (not of course in terms of the result). I have to question whether or not Williams is contractually obliged to play ‘the Swansea way’??

the mythical Swansea way.... his style at Notts County was more akin to what we saw under Martinez. This Swansea Way tag is a millstone around managers necks, constantly passing sideways and backwards was never a part of our game.....under Brendan yes if nothing was on the mantra was to keep possession butball the time looking to create an opening. Hopefully we might see more of that as the squad settles....i dont remember us playing so cautiously towards the end of last season so maybe we are in a transition phase as Luke watches players bed in. Im hoping we might see Eon Zan and Ronald together up front on Saturday with Franco and either Cooper or Abdulli behind them with Key Nd Tymon pushing up ..... Its still early days though and to answer your question i doubut he is contracred to play a certain way as Duff certainly wasnt..
