Sounds like fake news to justify the French impounding a trawler skippered by a fellow EU citizen from Ireland.
An ITV report has stated that at the time the trawler was detained it wasn’t on a list of licensed trawlers used by the French for verification, however it now appears the trawler is on the list of licensed trawlers permitted to fish French waters as claimed by the crew.
The list the French use is collated administrated by the UK's Marine Management Organisation (MMO) which is part of DEFRA and the list now shows that the Cornelis Gert Jan is entitled to fish It’s suspected that an admin error has occurred at our end and DEFRA have been asked to comment.

The French would claim that of course. Just an excuse to illegally impounded the trawler despite the skipper showing the French authorities all the correct paper work .
No doubt the threat of legal action against the EU and France led to the EU putting pressure on the French to stick to brexit agreement the EU negotiated on behalf of the French.
