Today's Times suggests that Aston Villa will be announcing their acquisition of Ki Sung Yueng before leaving for a tour to the US tomorrow.

Personally, I feel that if a player is being pictured training with his new team and it's all over the Web, the club should do the decent thing and come out and confirm it.

No reason not to is there? Unless there's something dodgy going on and Pabs went awol without the club's knowledge or a deal actually being agreed. A bit odd.

I must have missed the bit where a season was 14 games then.

Not sure of the logic where we could jettison Michu, Pablo, Canas, Pozuelo, Ki, JdG (still not back) and Davies, replace with TWO players and have a much better squad.

It's a bigger summer of upheaval than I was expecting I must admit.

Fair points - and I don't want the debate to degenerate into the schoolyard that so many do on the forum right now but in response:

- No, the season isn't 14 games (obviously) but if you take out the Europa League which we are not in this season are there any other 'regulars' that played in the league?

- My TWO players are in addition to Montero, Gomis, and Fabianski already in. One of them would be JDG who we have to land in my opinion, and one other Midfielder

- I do agree that its big upheaval and therefore a risk, however apart from Ben I think most people would agree the players out the door we needed to get off the wage bill

just my opinion

Jesus, do people not understand that during a World Cup transfer window at PL level transfers are always slow and done late

Jenkins and Monk have known about the cull (or at least most of it) since February.
Monk is on record as saying he wanted the transfer business done before the World Cup started.

We have two experienced midfielders 4 weeks from the start of the season...

It certainly wasn't the wisest thing to say. Not a problem providing he learns from his mistake. Huw wasn't the greatest in his statements early on (Leacock), but has improved significantly and that's probably why he's doing more of the statements these days.

Warwick has a point I'm afraid, they did know thats for sure.
I think Huw's bloody minded ness causes us problems at times.

Mind you as much as its rubbish, it could also be rubbish we will sign the five players needed by the start of the season.

There is no way they knew of this so called cull in Feb, Canas played games untill the in fighting that occurred in that trg session. Pablo played all the time under Monk so they would of wanted him to stay, Michu they openly stated they wanted him to stay upto 2 weeks ago. So they never planned any cull. Also if hardly call 4 players a cull

oh come one - every transfer window we say the same thing and every transfer window it doesn't happen. Surely no one believes it when they say it? I always assume that they mean 'in an ideal world' not that it's going to happen.

Every single manager says the same thing (not just our managers) and every deadline day we have the ridiculous 'transfer window closing' nonsense on Sky because no one sticks to it.

It's almost as if some clubs are refusing to do business with us until they've finished doing business on another transfer. But the other club they're dealing with are also dragging their heels because of another deal going on...

At the end of the day, there were two out of contract players we wanted (that we know of) and we had both of them signed before the end of June. So those deals we were in control of got done in the timescale predicted.

Monk was unwise to say what he did, but this just seems like another stick for some to beat the club with.

Its the same old scenario from Huw though, he says the same at every transfer window, Its like a record being played on a loop, he's just added the World Cup to it

Its funny how other clubs manage to get their business done though all the turmoil.

Im not too bothered, ki has been IMO bang average considering the 5,5m we bought him for.

Neat and tidy player but in fairness at the swans they Are two a penny .

A clearout was inevitable once Laudrup was sacked "to maintain the club ethos" - you didn't need a crystal ball to see that.
How many were planned and how many were a direct or indirect result I'll suspect we'll never know. I does appear, whatever your opinion of the players, that we've thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

If you believe the Michu story then I know a Nigerian businessman who'd love to get in touch with you.

but who has got their business done?

Have you seen the clear out rumours at Man Utd, the number of players supposedly being targeted at Liverpool?Every club is in the same boat - the local press here are full of QPR not signing people or Chelsea needing others etc. None of the clubs have done their transfer business - hence why we are having rumours of Ben leaving, or Bony leaving or Ki.

I honestly don't get the panic. Its verging on lunacy.

Ki was crap, Pablo was too hot and cold (mostly the latter), Canas and Pozuelo were crap, Michu was injured and didnt want to be here.

That leaves the transfer of Davies. The same player many sections were calling to be dropped and replaced by Taylor for much of last season. A good player no doubt about it, but a key element of where we are today? Not a chance.

We are in fine shape. Goalkeepers are sorted, defence is sorted, strikers are sorted we just need to add quality to the midfield which we are doing.

Can anyone remember having 2 goalkeepers of this quality at the same time or two strikers of this quality at the same time? Its stunning. Defence will pretty much be the same minus Davies and the midfield still has Shelvey, Britton, Routledge and Dyer with more to come.

I tend to agree with this. Nice one

I believe the club wanted to keep him rather than loan him out. Michu and his brattish behaviour gave the club no choice

Those that have done a lot of their business are the ones who have paid inflated transfer fees:

Sanchez, Shaw, Herrera, Diego Costa, Fabregas.
